Even though Samsung is renowned for releasing a bunch of spin-off devices after every new flagship, we naturally thought that the South Korean company might skip the Galaxy S5 Active this time around. After all, the Galaxy S4 Active's main draw was its dust and waterproof nature, and given how the standard Galaxy S5 is already both of these things, we naively touted the demise of the Active. However, a new video showcasing the Galaxy S5 Active in full working order suggests otherwise, and as well as being more rugged than its just-released cousin, is notably different in a few other departments, too.
Google Glass has become a source of interest in the recent weeks, with the company first opening up the expensive and highly advanced eyewear for sale for just a day, and then making it available for everyone in the US. It seems clear that Google is out to ensuring some rather heavy marketing for the Google Glass lineup, and their latest stint with tennis sensation Roger Federer and Stefan Edberg is sure to help that cause. Apparently, the two tennis giants stopped by the Google campus to try on the new eyewear, and take on each other in a friendly match that offered a unique perspective into the game.
Police in Dubai have been testing out Google's Glass in an attempt to bust those violating traffic laws and regulations. Following a pilot scheme by the New York Police Department in the United States, it's no surprise to see more law enforcement agencies utilizing the technologies offered by Google's head-mounted gadget, and apparently, Dubai's police force has already created two custom app tailored to stopping traffic violators in their tracks.
It seems that re-releasing existing smartphones with a beefed up set of specifications is all the rage these days. With rumors circulating that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to gain a bigger, badder brother in the Galaxy S5 Prime, some may have wondered what HTC was going to do about the idea that its main competition will have one-upped it once again. Increasingly, it's looking like the answer to that is a predictable one, because rumors now also point to HTC having its own Prime in the works.
Even though Samsung's Galaxy S series is considered the company's main, flagship line, the Galaxy Note range has won the hearts and affections of those looking for a similar premium experience on a larger canvas. This year, we're expecting to see the Galaxy Note 4 emerge around September time, coinciding once again with the IFA gathering in Berlin, Germany, and even though we've quite a way to go, tidbits of info are already trickling in from around the Web.
HTC may have already released the successor to last year's incredibly popular One M7 with the all-new One M8 smartphone, but already, the Taiwanese outfit is busily teasing another new device via its official Twitter feed. Unfortunately, the tidbit offers very few clues other than that we should expect "curves," and given the beautiful design of its latest flagship handset, we're expecting the company's design team to pull off another impressive finish on whatever this upcoming gadget will be.
The CyanogenMod aftermarket firmware for Android is easily among the most popular and celebrated, but unless you're a dab hand at flashing custom ROMs, then you may well be put-off trying it out for yourself. If you've long since been a fan of the interface, or simply just wanted to try CM out without digging into the guts of your device and potentially voiding your warranty along the way, a new, Play Store-based app offers a taster of the Cyanogen experience without the potential pitfalls of getting stuck en route to more sophisticated modding.
Samsung has long since been known to push the boundaries when it comes to increasing the display sizes on mobile devices. As well as the Galaxy Note, which is credited with founding the "phablet" market, the company also took the wraps off the Galaxy Mega last year, which packed a mammoth 6.3-inch display. In this day and age, we're accustomed to a new release per product line per year, and apparently, the Galaxy Mega's forthcoming successor will include a whopping 7-inch display.
We already know that Samsung isn't averse to launching multiple versions of the same phone, whether the differences be screen sizes, shock or water resistance or horsepower, but the rumored Galaxy S5 Prime still has us interested. What appears to be a Galaxy S5 on steroids, the unannounced product has been gathering some traction in the leak stakes of late, and now one appears to have popped up on YouTube.
When it comes to smartphone use, Web browsing is undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons we pick our phones up, and in turn one of the most used apps we have on our phones is whatever Web browser we choose to use. If you're packing an Android phone, then the chances are that browser is Google's Chrome.
