Apple’s iPhone event managed to deliver pretty much everything we expected, with the addition of a few minor curveballs. The much-speculated iPhone 5c and 5s were introduced to a small but excited crowd, but rather than announcing a price decrease of the current generation iPhone 5, Apple has instead decided to kill off the phone altogether.

Well that's it folks, today's Cupertino based iPhone event has been and gone. It may not have contained the glitz and glamour that comes attached with Apple’s WWDC event, but it lived up to everything we expected while managing to deliver a little bit more in the process. The announcement of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s undoubtedly dominated the event, and Apple has now updated their official customer facing Website with a number of walkthrough videos to show off their latest tech.
Will Apple innovate or simply produce hardware that focuses more on evolution? Today is the day all will be revealed as Apple walks us through the year ahead, live from Cupertino.
Recently, research firm Gartner brought us the news that we have all been expecting for quite some time - that smartphone sales are now exceeding the sales of standard so-called "feature" phones. The April-June period of this year represented the first time that this has been the case, and although it was something that was inevitably going to happen, it does go a long way to actually showing our increasing reliance on the smartphones that we all carry around with us. The I Forgot My Phone video - courtesy of Charlene deGuzman - also manages to paint a pretty powerful picture of how smartphone technology has managed to become infused in our everyday existence.
September is shaping up to be an increasingly exciting time for the mobile technology industry. Apple is widely expected to announce at least two new iPhones along with iOS 7 next month, but there is also a huge amount of excitement surrounding the September 4th Samsung Unpacked 2013 event, that promises to bring a number of announcements. One of those products that will make an appearance is the third-generation Galaxy Note and today's fresh new report suggests that video and music lovers will be in for a treat when this one hits the market.
The Google Chromecast dongle has been making some ripples recently in the portable technology world. The little $35 dongle allows users to stream high-definition content directly to a TV set through service providers such as Netflix and YouTube. The content may be fairly limited at the moment, but with the Mountain View company planning on adding additional providers, the future looks bright for Google's little connected device. Having said that, controlling and interacting with the Chromecast got a tad bit easier with the official release of the Chromecast app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
The Nexus 7 has proven itself to be one of the most popular tablets in the 7-inch department. A gorgeous little form-factor mixed with powerful internal specifications has managed to push the device ahead of the competition, and the 2013 Nexus 7 also follows the same footsteps of its predecessor from last year. However, as popular as the Nexus 7 has proven to be, it's immediately evident that it differs in some aspects to other Jelly Bean powered tablets.
A move which we have been expecting for quite some time: Microsoft has finally made the decision to rid Xbox 360 customers of Microsoft Points in favor of real-world local currency. A Xbox update that is starting to filter its way around the world puts an end to the Points system and converts any Microsoft Points on an account into the local currency of the user.
Motorola has stayed good to the word of their Vice President of Product Marketing, by updating the "ways to buy" page on the Moto X website to indicate that a Developer Edition of the device will be "coming soon". It was only a matter of days ago that Punit Soni informed the smartphone loving public that Developer Editions of Motorola's flagship device would be arriving imminently, and the website now reflects that promise from the company's executive.
Let's be honest, those who are managing to hold down a steady job should class themselves as extremely fortunate. Those who get up each morning and walk through the employment doors of prestigious companies like Microsoft, even more so. If you take away the regular salary bank deposits and the respect that comes with working for a huge corporation on extremely popular products, then just what's left? It seems that employees of the Redmond based company are left with access to an exclusive employee-only white Xbox One, and we couldn't be more envious.
