The technology world is very excited by the prospect of Google's wearable Glass tech releasing later this year, and in the last couple of days, things appear to have stepped up a notch or two. Following the Big G's publication of Google Glass specs of its forthcoming digital spectacles - at which point the company also released a MyGlass companion app for Android - several unboxing images and hands-on videos have emerged across the Interwebs.
HP's cult favorite webOS may have been essentially killed off by the large computer firm before being sold on to LG, but its presence is certainly still felt in the mobile world. One of the nice aesthetic elements of the company's short-lived operating system was the rounded corners, but even with a thriving community like Android's, a replication of that stylish look has not really manifested itself since. If you always wanted to see what your handset's display might look like with rounded corners, you may want to check out a little app / mod by the name of RoundR.
At this years’ Hack in the Box conference in Amsterdam, Evad3rs not only presented the Evasi0n jailbreak, but also took time out to answer some of the common questions in a separate exclusive Q&A session with the press. The video recording of this session is now available online for everyone to see.
One of the most incessantly annoying features of iOS's functionality is the fact that whenever you open up an App Store link in your browser, in the Notes app, or within any other app for that matter, it automatically jumps away from what you're doing, and takes you straight to the page of the game or app in App Store app. This rather irritating trait is also manifested on OS X, with iTunes popping up by default when you're just looking to check out an app's reputation in your browser. Luckily, jailbreaks mean the pet peeves of most users can be nullified, and with a nifty little tweak by the name of QuickStore, clicked App Store links will appear in a versatile pop-up window as opposed to dragging you away from your app-in-hand.
Windows 8 has certainly divided opinion among PC users, with some users having been vocally critical of the tiled, so-called Metro interface that Microsoft decided to opt for. Traditionalists have been particularly unimpressed with the new Start menu, which, while adept for tablet use, can confuse the everyday, desktop Windows user. According to sources of TheVerge, Microsoft is testing current builds of Windows 8.1 inclusive of an option for users to boot into the much familiar desktop screen.
A case mold has today emerged purporting to offer the strongest indication yet as to the form factor of the upcoming fifth-gen iPad. Perhaps even more exciting than the case itself, however, is an accompanying note which suggests the device will be announced by Apple on June 18th, which is just over a month away, and may also coincide with the fruit company's annual Worldwide Developer Conference.
Back in last September, you may recall a rather humorous satirical clip making lighthearted fun of die-hard Apple fans, or specifically, the things they tend to come out with in defense of the company they so treasure. Not so long after, another clip surfaced via YouTube which gave Android fanboys a similar kind of treatment, and for those that missed it, it's well worth checking out. The Android fanatic focuses on the kinds of topics we see debated ad nauseam on the Interwebs, including the iPhone's small screen, lack of widgets, and failing Maps service. The clip is pretty darn hilarious, and you can check it out after the break!
Whenever you pop into a library, IT center, or coffee shop, it's not particularly hard to spot a MacBook. The glowing Apple logo on the back of the machine is unmistakable, and while it does make for a nice aesthetic footnote, it also has an air of the generic about it. There are various stickers one can place over the top of the logo to offer a touch of uniqueness, but considering the cost of an Apple notebook is fairly high in the first place, it's not surprising consumers are reluctant to begin sticking things to the body of their treasured gadget. Recognizing many would like to customize without defacing, entrepreneurs Tony Kern and Jeremiah Johnson have come up with the Iconic Disc: a highly customizable aluminum contraption which allows you to overlay the Apple logo with your very own design.
Reports of Apple building an iWatch have gained a significant amount of traction over the past couple of months, and naturally, there have been plenty of suggestions that several rivaling companies could be about to make similar arrangements. Following on from reports that both Google and Samsung are considering this particular branch of wearable tech, The Wall Street Journal has chimed in news that Redmond-based software giant may too be working on such a device.
