Ben Reid·February 27, 2015
The Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, has approved a set of new rules on how Internet traffic is to be managed and regulated, after commissioners voted 3-2 in its favor. Many, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, have spoken of their delight at the ruling, with The Woz himself calling it a win for "the average Joe."

Ben Reid·February 27, 2015
A short while ago, Apple confirmed the widely-suspected notion that it would soon be holding a special media event, having just sent out invitations for a gathering at the Yerba Buena on March 9th. Most of the time, these keynotes are beamed out to the masses, although occasionally, Apple does surprise us by not streaming live. In this instance, though, interested parties will be able to follow the thrills and spills of the 'Spring forward' event as it happens, with Apple having just confirmed that live streams will be available.

Ben Reid·February 26, 2015

This Service Will Get You Anything You Want Using A Simple Text Message

Ben Reid·February 26, 2015
Have you ever wanted your own personal assistant ready to respond to your every beckoned call? I'm not talking about Siri or Google Now, which will both tell you the football scores or what the weather's going to be like next weekend; I mean a real assistant, more like a secretary - one that will fetch you a pizza or book you flights to suit your needs at the drop of a hat. A newly-introduced service has taken the idea of a butler / chauffeur / servant and rolled it into a magical new text-based system, and provided your request is on the right side of legal, any product or service is just a text away.

Apple Watch Will Offer 100,000 Apps At Launch, Reckons One Analyst

Ben Reid·February 25, 2015
Apple Watch will, according to company CEO Tim Cook, begin shipping from April, and since we're now closing in on that launch period, the guesswork has well and truly begun about what the device will offer, how many units it could shift, and generally, how consumers will take to the much-hyped wearable. No matter what the subject or rumor, there always, always seems to be one analyst whose calculations stick out like a sore thumb, and on the topic of the Apple Watch, an equities research expert has suggested that there'll be 100,000 apps ready at launch.

iOS 8.3 Beta 2 Runs Faster On Older Devices [Video]

Ben Reid·February 25, 2015
Yesterday, Apple unleashed iOS 8.3 beta 2 to developers, and with it, we got further insight into plans to expand the range of emoji. One thing that most software updates seek improve is speed and general performance on the older supported devices, which, in this case, would be the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5. With this in mind, tests have been carried out on both handsets pitting the new beta against the latest public release that is iOS 8.1.3 download, and it does seem like iOS 8.3 will offer a generous improvement, particularly to those rocking older Apple mobile devices.

Apple’s World Travel Adapter Kit Now Costs $29, Ditches 30-Pin USB Cable

Ben Reid·February 24, 2015
It was way back with the iPhone 5 in 2012 that Apple introduced the smaller, reversible (although still proprietary) Lightning cable, which signaled the end of the 30-pin connector. Of course, many still did, and still do use devices rocking the old 30-pin socket, which is why Apple's World Travel Adapter Kit has hitherto included a 30-pin cable. Recognizing that after two-and-a-half years, many folks are now running on Lightning, the pack has been relieved of the 30-pin cable, and notably, now arrives at a cheaper cost.

This iPhone 6c Concept Render Looks Absolutely Gorgeous [Images]

Ben Reid·February 24, 2015
Apple's iPhone has been a continued success story, with sales improving as each new version arrives. One model that does stick out a little is the iPhone 5c, which was the company's attempt at a more affordable handset, and although it has divided opinion, continues to retail alongside the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In the run-up to last September, it was reckoned that colorful, plastic-clad 5c would be scrapped, but having been thrown out for a second run, it may well be here to stay. One concept maker seems to agree, and as such, has come through with some impressive renders of what the next version - should it ever manifest itself - may look like.
