Apple Watch Series 5 OLED Display Might Be Sourced From Japan Display

The smartwatch market really only consists of the Apple Watch, but that doesn’t mean that Apple will be resting on its laurels. The Apple Watch Series 4 has been well received since its introduction late last year, but the Apple Watch Series 5 will surely push on.

According to a new report, the new watch will also come with a new OLED display courtesy of Japan Display.

The Apple Watch has had an OLED display ever since the first model arrived, and the Apple Watch Series 4 saw a change in display shape and size for the first time, too. According to a report from Reuters, Japan Display will supply the OLED displays for the Apple Watch as of this year.

Despite this news, the belief isn’t that we will see a big change in the way the Apple Watch looks or functions this year, given the refresh the display itself saw late last year. In that case, it’s likely that this move is simply a logistical one for Apple.

While we might not see a refreshed design this year, but a report by Ming-Chi Kuo claims that we may see the return of the ceramic Apple Watch this year, although that’s not been confirmed at this point. Apple is likely to refresh the Apple Watch as a whole around October time, and with that in mind we’d expect to start seeing more information leak out as that time draws closer.

For now, the Apple Watch Series 4 is the best smartwatch around, and consistently appears to be saving lives thanks to its heart monitoring chops. Long may that continue.
