Apple To Launch A Notch-Less iPhone In 2020 Alongside Models With Reduced Notch [Report]

We might still be months away form the 2019 iPhones being announced but some analysts have already turned their attention to what they believe Apple has up its sleeve for 2020.

According to two of them, we could be enjoying iPhones with smaller, or completely disappeared notches come next year.

The first of the reports comes via the usually reliable Ming-Chi Kuo via Chinese website, MyDrivers. According to that report Apple will launch at least one new version of the iPhone in 2020 that will feature a smaller notch. That will be made possible thanks to a smaller camera setup, according to the report. Face ID will still be there, though.

Where things get most interesting is another report, this time via China Times and citing an analyst at investment firm Credit Suisse. In that report it’s claimed that Apple will launch a new iPhone in 2020 that doesn’t have a notch at all. That will be thanks to the removal of Face ID altogether, with a return to Touch ID but this time beneath the display’s glass.

That’s a rumor that has been around for a long time, and this one believes that Apple will use its own version of in-display fingerprint technology rather than rely on one used in other phones from other manufacturers.

Beyond 2020, the same report claims all iPhones will ditch the notch in 2021 with the new version of Touch ID used across the board.

Given the fuss Apple has made about Face ID and its security aspects we’re unsure where we stand on the idea of it being removed from all iPhones. We’ll have to wait and see and with more rumors sure to arrive in the coming months, we’ll find out sooner or later.
