Apple has today announced an upgraded iPad, with the new 11th-gen model gaining an improved chip and more storage compared to the previous 10th-gen model.
The news came as part of the same press release that saw the new M3 iPad Air released, with Apple adding the A16 chip and a starting capacity of 128GB for the first time.
The move means that this is the fastest entry-level iPad to date, making it a better buy compared to previous generations, although this also means that the base iPad still misses out on Apple Intelligence.
The A16 chip provides a jump in performance for everyday tasks and experiences in iPadOS, while still providing all-day battery life. Compared to the previous generation, the updated iPad with A16 is nearly 30 percent faster. In fact, compared to iPad with A13 Bionic, users will see up to a 50 percent improvement in overall performance, and A16 makes the updated iPad up to 6x faster than the best-selling Android tablet.
Alongside the 128GB starting capacity, Apple also offers 256GB and 512GB options whereas the 10th-gen iPad was only offered in 64GB and 256GB configurations.
Buyers can also choose between blue, pink, yellow, and silver while the doubling of the base storage capacity hasn’t had an impact on price — the new iPad still starts at $349.
Apple made the new iPad available for preorder today, with tablets set to go on sale on March 12.
