Apple Announces iPad 8th-Gen With A12 Bionic CPU, More
Apple today announced the updated iPad, making this an eighth-generation product. The new iPad comes in at just $329 and packs quite the punch thanks to the speedy Apple-designed A12 Bionic processor.
The display comes in the form of a 10.2-inch Retina display and, of course, there is the all-day battery life that Apple is so famous for. But it’s that A12 Bionic that will make this the best iPad yet.
Apple says that the new iPad is up to 40% faster in CPU performance and twice as fast in terms of GPU capability. That’s a huge deal for something that costs relatively little, especially compared to some of the iPad’s notebook competitors.
The eighth-generation iPad with the A12 Bionic chip delivers a huge leap in performance, with 40 percent faster CPU performance and twice the graphics capability.2 This makes the new iPad up to two times faster than the top-selling Windows laptop, up to three times faster than the top-selling Android tablet and up to six times faster than the top-selling Chromebook. For the first time on iPad, A12 Bionic introduces the Neural Engine for next-level machine learning capabilities, including people occlusion and motion tracking in augmented reality (AR) apps, enhanced photo editing, Siri performance, and more.
Apple’s iPad also supports the first-generation Apple Pencil, with Touch ID also built-in. Throw in the improvements that iPadOS 14 will also bring to the table and this is quite clearly the best iPad ever. And it remains one of the best value iPads, too.
This being Apple, it also notes that this is part of the most environmentally friendly iPad lineup ever.
The new eighth-generation iPad is designed to be environmentally friendly and supports Apple’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2030. iPad uses a 100 percent recycled aluminum enclosure and 100 percent recycled tin for the solder on its main logic board, remains free of harmful substances, is highly energy efficient, and uses wood fiber packaging that is recycled or comes from responsibly managed forests.
The new iPad is available for order today with a starting price of $329 for the WiFi model, and will start shipping at the end of the week by September 18th.
