Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM Leaked For Samsung Galaxy S II, Download Now! [Root Only]

While most folks having a Samsung Galaxy S II are at Android 2.3.3 and are waiting for Android 2.3.4 (which includes yours truly) with an OTA update, we have received news that Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread has been leaked for said device and that it is actually available for download right now.

The news comes from PocketNow –a blog dedicated to bringing the latest news and views on smartphones. They cite an announcement made by SAM Firmware in association with some of the folks behind DarkyROM regarding a leaked version of Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, whose build date is September 15th (ten days ago).

From PocketNow:

The Samsung Galaxy S II is still THE Android phone of the moment (at least until one of those HD screen-enabled beasts are released) and the manufacturer is trying to maintain the phone up to date as much as possible.

The latest leak represents Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy S II. The firmware version is I9100XXKI3, which translates to European version 3, dated September 15.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II superphone was announced back in February at MWC and was released to different markets in May. Epic 4G Touch, the first variant of the Galaxy S II to release in US markets, was launched just a few days ago on Sprint while other variants – for AT&T and T-Mobile – are on their way. The Galaxy S II has received universal acclaim for its best-in-class performance, bright and vibrant display, long-lasting battery life and outstanding optics.

Coming back to the leaked Android build, we suggest our dear readers to stay away from it. While it has been proved to be working, it just isn’t worth the risk and we don’t even know what this update brings with itself. The version number, jumping from .3 to .4 suggests that the updates are minor and, as such, it is best to stick to whatever version you have now.

If you don’t install it manually, you’ll eventually be able to get Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for your Galaxy S II in the form of an Over-The-Air (OTA) update which, we personally think, would be a safer thing to do.

Still, you can check out the original thread here if you’re interested. Good luck!
