A 15-Inch MacBook Air Could Debut This Year, But No 12-Inch MacBook

Apple has a big 2023 in store, especially if it is finally able to get the rumored mixed reality headset out of the door in the first few months of the year as has been rumored.

But following claims that the company’s focus on the headset is impacting other products, a new report claims that there there is one silver lining — a new 15-inch MacBook Air.

We’ve been hearing rumors of a new 15-inch version of the MacBook Air for a few months now and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing via the Power On newsletter, says that Apple is now set to announce the product this year.

Display analyst Ross Young had already alluded to a new 15-inch MacBook Air being announced in the first quarter of this year, with Gurman now backing that up somewhat. However, it isn’t all good news — Gurman says that previous plans to launch a new Apple silicon 12-inch MacBook appear to have been canned. At least for now.

If there’s any major saving grace for the Mac lineup in 2023, it’s a planned 15-inch MacBook Air. A new 12-inch MacBook is no longer on Apple’s near-term road map however.

The 12-inch MacBook was a popular machine the last time Apple sold one, but it was hampered by poor performance thanks to a low-power Intel CPU. The move to Apple silicon would no doubt fix that particular problem, but Apple is now thought to have shelved the plans.
