Apple May Bring Back Its Classic Rainbow Logo On Some Devices Very Soon, Suggests New Report

Apple could be planning to bring its classic rainbow-coloured logo back to its products as soon as later this year. That’s according to a report by MacRumors, which cites a tipster who in turn cites an Apple employee.

While none of these people are named for obvious reasons, MacRumors says that the tipster is well-connected. It does also note that it’s possible that the rumour is incorrect, but we can at least hope.

To be clear, this rumor could very well be untrue. We have elected to share it since it comes from a tipster who has longstanding connections to both Apple and related industries, but no other sources have shared similar information that we know of. And, even if true, the plans could certainly change.

MacRumors doesn’t know what products could be set to get the new logo, but I’m already imagining an iPhone with that iconic rainbow logo on the back. And then there’s the MacBook lineup, too. I still haven’t forgiven Apple for ditching the glowing Apple logo from its notebook line, so the thought of a colorful logo is even better.

Apple hasn’t used its six-color logo since 1998 but does continue to use color in many different ways across its branding and product lines. The thought of its return is certainly something we’re here for and we suspect most Apple followers would agree. In fact, Apple’s outgoing design head Jony Ive recently commented on the rainbow himself.

There is the resonance with the rainbow logo that’s been part of our identity for many years. The rainbow is also a positive and joyful expression of some of our inclusion values and I think that one of the primary reasons the idea resonated so immediately and so profoundly with us was the form — the connection from an aesthetic design point of view. A semi-circle relates so beautifully and naturally to the form of the ring.

I just like the way it looks.
