Apple is proving a big hit with younger Americans, something that is proving an issue for Android according to a new report.
That report, courtesy of the Financial Times, says that younger consumers are choosing Apple’s iPhone in droves.
The reason, it says, is that their friends are all using iPhones and that they fear being left out or cut out of their social circles if they don’t also have iPhones. Some would argue this is the green bubble phenomenon in full effect.
It’s said that 34% of all iPhone owners in the United States are Gen Z, which means that they were born after 1996. That number falls considerably for Android with just 10% of those using devices running Google’s mobile operating system considered to be Gen Z.
As the generations mature the split between Android and iPhones appears to even out, however. The report suggests that Gen Z customers spend more time online than any other age group, perhaps explaining why Apple’s iMessage and other services are so important.
In terms of what comes next, it’s thought that as Gen Z matures Apple can expect to become even more popular, adding younger people as it goes. As older users die, so too could Android’s current market share.
More numbers show that for every 100 iPhones that Apple sells around the world it also sells 26 iPads, 36 pairs of AirPods, and 17 Apple Watches according to data put together by Canalys.
