Apple Announces ‘Let Loose’ Special Event With New iPads Expected

Apple has announced a new special event for May 7 with the “Let Loose” tagline. The event will take place at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET and while Apple hasn’t yet confirmed what it will entail, rumors have heavily pointed to new iPads being on the horizon for weeks.

The event looks set to be a virtual one which means that there will be no in-person component bar any hands-on briefings that will take place ahead of time.

In terms of what we expect the event to entail, it’s thought that Apple will announce the first new iPads in more than a year. There were no iPads announced in 2023 but 2024 is expected to see multiple, beginning with the new iPad Pro and iPad Air.

If the rumors turn out to be accurate Apple will announce a new OLED iPad Pro in 11-inch and 12.9-inch configurations. They’ll both come with new M3 chips inside similar to those in the latest Macs, while no overall design changes are expected beyond the new OLED display.

New iPad Air models are expected to debut as well, with the 11-inch tablet’s refresh expected to be joined by an all-new 12.9-inch iPad Air.

It’s believed that both tablets will use M2 chips, upgrading the M1 of the current model. The addition of a larger tablet will give people more options, especially for those who don’t want or need an iPad Pro.

Accessories are also expected in the form of a new, more sturdy Apple Magic Keyboard while an updated Apple Pencil has also leaked of late.
