The first real Windows Phone 7 device from HTC has been spotted running a developer version of Windows Phone 7. The device in question boasts specs and a form factor which resembles that of HTC Desire (an Android phone).
Earlier this week, Microsoft started sending out developer-only test units built by Samsung and LG to developers to help them test the performance of their upcoming apps on actual handsets rather than emulators. Folks at NewsGeek site has put this test phone which is running Technical Preview version of Windows Phone 7 against iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 for a head-to-head web browser speed comparison. Unfortunately, since the test was conducted on a (different?) 3G network instead of WiFi (see the Disclaimer below), In all fairness, it will be unfair to pick one winner between Mobile Safari and Mobile IE.

A DeviantArt member named fediaFedia is working on an awesome looking theme, which brings Metro UI to your Windows 7 desktop via Rainmeter software. It certainly is a very tempting theme, which is inspired by WP7S, and definitely worth a look. Even though it’s not ready yet for primetime use, thought we’d just share it with you guys.
Here is a simple how-to guide on running Windows Phone 7 Series emulator without having to run the entire Visual Studio 2010 IDE. If you have installed the development tools (including Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows phone), you’ll notice that the .exe file for emulator (xde.exe) is automatically installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft XDE\1.0\ location. Simply double clicking on Xde.exe file wont start the emulator as it requires some command line parameters.
Designer Umang Dokey has come up with an awesome looking prototype concept of an Tablet (Slate PC) which runs on top of Windows Phone 7. With an 8’’ screen, foldable keyboard, built-in table stand and a finger friendly OS, this is what HP Slate should have been like right from the start. Video after the jump.
