Many of Apple's mobile adversaries, including HTC and Samsung, took to Twitter on Tuesday to offer their verdicts on the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus launch, and rather unsurprisingly, the new smartphone double-act didn't garner favorable reviews. While you'd expect rivals to take a pop at one another at times like this, though, there's a special animosity between Samsung and its Californian rival, and as such, the Korean outfit has upped the ante with a series of half a dozen clips picking faults in Apple's newly-unleashed devices. In addition, there's even a little dig at the hit-and-miss live stream that Apple put out, below, you can enjoy the playlist in its entirety.
There's scarcely an area of the mobile industry that Samsung has not touched upon, with the company having already delivered multiple smartwatches since launching the Galaxy Gear last year. With Google Glass gathering steam ahead of its release early next year and Facebook having recently acquired Oculus's VR technology, Samsung is angling for a piece of the pie with a virtual reality headset of its own, and apparently, the so-called Gear VR will be showcased at IFA. The notion of an imminent VR headset is nothing new, but now, we have some images to mull over, and below, you can check them out.
Virtual Reality has suffered more than a few false dawns over the years, but with the likes of the Oculus Rift reigniting attention in the technology, everyone seems to be working on their own implementation these days.
As well as taking the wraps off the Galaxy Note 3 ahead of last year's IFA exhibition in Berlin, Samsung also introduced its inaugural smartwatch effort in the form of the Galaxy Gear. Sure, it was panned by critics and went down with consumers like the proverbial lead balloon, but it was a start, and having rolled out a handful of wearables since then, the company is in much better standing as far as the emerging smartwatch market is concerned. Given the Korean outfit's insatiable need to continually push new products, the rumor that another smartwatch may be rolled out alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at this year's IFA is none too surprising, and with the report on the matter also suggesting that it will include its very own SIM slot, it's perhaps the most interesting smartwatch that Samsung has brought to us so far.
On the first week of September, with the IFA tech gathering looming, Samsung usually showcases the latest addition to its phablet 'Note' series, and although we've heard several reports with regards to the Galaxy Note 4, it's now certain that Samsung Unpacked will be held on September 3rd. The Korean outfit just passed out invitations to the special event, and although it cannot be confirmed that we'll be seeing the Note 4, the timing leads us to believe that this will, in fact, be the case.
Samsung is licking its wounds today after IDC estimated that it saw a very rare year-on-year drop in smartphone market share during the second quarter of 2014, which will concern a company that is historically used to its percentages going in the opposite direction.
As tech rivalries go, Apple and Samsung are two of the fiercest adversaries in the game, and with the Cupertino outfit having recently put down a cool $3 billion to acquire Beats Electronics, it was somewhat inevitable that its Korean counterpart would retaliate with a similar endeavor. Just a few weeks after the Apple-Beats deal was made official, Samsung has responded with an audio hardware announcement of its own, and despite the Galaxy maker's famously extravagant spending when it comes to advertising new products, the new "Samsung Level" range hasn't, for once, forced the Tizen maker to dip so deeply into its apparently bottomless pit of funds.
Samsung has just unveiled its next-generation mobile processor, and in no uncertain terms, it's a beast. The South Korean company has consistently sought to up the ante with its stream of Exynos processors, and the new Exynos ModAP does precisely that. Although there's no telling whether Samsung plans to implement this new SoC into the imminent Galaxy Note 4, it's more than likely to feature as the workhorse of the next flagship Galaxy S6, which we expect to release at some point in early 2015.
The Samsung Gear Fit fitness tracker and smartwatch is probably the least bulky smartwatch around, but it's also more of a fitness tracker than the kind of smartwatch that we're all so excited about getting. That doesn't mean that it's not awesome though, and if you've been on the fence about picking one up and happen to live in the United States, then now might be a great time to take the plunge.
Companies will often let you test out their new, exciting releases for a limited period, with the obvious intention of selling you the product thereafter. In the tech world, this isn't necessarily common practice, but following on from T-Mobile's "Test Drive" offer with the iPhone 5s, Samsung has now rolled out a new system giving folks the opportunity to try out a number of devices on its Galaxy line-up for three whole weeks.
