Redsn0w, the prominent jailbreaking tool developed by veteran of the scene MuscleNerd, has today been updated to version 0.9.9b1 and brings with it some key improvements, rendering it one of the most significant updates to date.
Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be in the presence of some of the finest and most influential members of the jailbreaking community. Scores of iOS modding enthusiasts, reporters and developers turned out for the first ever jailbreak convention, now called JailbreakCon (formerly MyGreatFest), of which Redmond Pie was one of the key sponsors.
Jailbreak developer MuscleNerd has announced that a major update to popular jailbreaking tool Redsn0w is on its way which lets users jailbreak without needing to point at an IPSW and also lets users submit SHSH blobs to Cydia.
There's not exactly a shortage of tweaks which can be applied to alter and enhance the SMS experience on an iPhone. Remembering that the device is also occasionally used for calling and texting along with the endless array of other functions, the developers have really widened the rather limited set of options provided by Apple in the stock SMS app.
It appears that famous jailbreak hacker MuscleNerd visited Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino earlier today, starting rumors of Apple potentially hiring another key member of the iOS jailbreaking community.
If you've been a frequent reader of this website for the last few months, you're likely aware that Apple is getting ready to release iOS 5, the next version of its mobile operating system. After months of uncertainty, it now seems that there is at least one team which is actively working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.
The iOS jailbreaking community is, I personally believe, the most active mobile OS hacking community today. The community itself is pretty small, but they are pretty productive and regularly release jailbreaks (untethered or otherwise), exciting new tweaks on Cydia and amazing themes. This may be due to the fact that iOS works only on a handful of devices, but the fact is: these guys are simply amazing.
WhatsApp is a vastly popular cross-platform instant messaging app, used by many to replace SMS, yeonly t it supports the iPhone by default, leaving iPad and iPod touch users out in the cold. A few months ago, we reported on a method that forces WhatsApp to run on the iPad, yet we found that the exact same method can be used to install and use WhatsApp on the iPod touch.
Apple's clever code-monkeys in Cupertino have managed to make their mobile operating system, iOS, a relatively stable one. Apple's own apps tend to behave themselves, running when they're asked to, and quitting only when told to. It's how the world of software is supposed to work, and for the most part, iOS does.
For those hard of vision, the iPod, iPad and iPod Touch devices do provide a certain degree of accessibility options. Nonetheless, reading the small text, particularly on the smaller screen devices, can sometimes be challenging. Sure, you can pinch to zoom, but swiping across three times to read one sentence isn't exactly convenient.
