The recently released Image Grabber tweak that has just hit Cydia is a tool that affords users the ability to extract any image from within any web view that is found within iOS. The tweak itself is effectively a fully-featured image extraction tool that integrates into Apple's mobile operating system to give users some additional power to handle displayed media.
For those of you who think that using a smartphone should require the minimal amount of effort possible to operate, then having to arrange icons on the iPhone’s home screen may involve more effort than some are willing to expend. Thankfully, those who are jailbroken, and pay regular visits to the Cydia store will more than likely have managed to find some packages to automate certain processes.
The Auto App Killer tweak that landed in the Cydia store yesterday is one that is causing mixed opinions around the jailbreak community, with most chatter surrounding whether or not a package of this nature is even required. The tweak is designed to allow jailbroken users some additional control over running processes on their device in the hope that it will keep either the iPhone or iPod touch running smoothly with no low memory warnings.
One of the great things about the Apple's iOS mobile operating system is the native ability to be able to set certain restrictions on the device that prevent users from performing certain tasks. The restrictions options, which are accessible through the General menu of the Settings app on the device, are similar to parental controls that allows the owner of the device to restrict certain actions from being performed on the device, such as launching the App Store, Camera or Safari.
Despite its imperfections, it's hard to fault Cydia - the nucleus of the open-source jailbreak community, and with such a wide range of tweaks available serving different purposes, it's quite easy to forget that actually, there isn't much in the way of an alternative.
The Siri intelligent personal assistant that ships with the iPhone 4S is undoubtedly an excellent inclusion on the device, but has managed to be received with split opinions since its launch last October. However, no matter what your opinions on Siri are I think we can all agree it has amazing potential and until Apple adds some serious new features, we can always rely on the jailbreak community to keep pumping out Siri based enhancements.
A lot of seasoned and hardcore jailbreaks are often heard reminiscing about the times in the jailbreak community when a number of innovative and unique tweaks and packages are released through Cydia. It seems that, as of late, most of the good ideas and concepts have already been covered and released, meaning that we as jailbreakers are seeing a large amount of mediocre offerings being made available.
Here at Redmond Pie, we dedicate a great deal of our time and resources to covering as much of the Cydia scene as possible, and while we're all more than aware of the many benefits a jailbreak can bring in terms of functionality and customization, we'd never have pitched it as a potential tool for aiding the disabled.
Apple has reacted quickly to rectify the issue with their activation servers that allowed iPhone owners to unlock their devices, anyone who didn't get involved when the process was first announced will unfortunately be left with an iPhone restricted to a single carrier. However, if you are one of the enterprising few who jumped into action right away, then read on to see just what you can do with those saved activation tickets.
The Sparrow+ tweak that has just landed in Cydia is essentially a package which the jailbreak community had to provide in order to get the Sparrow iOS app to work in the fashion in which the developers would have really intended. Unfortunately for them, for one reason or another, Apple wouldn't allow the app to be in the App Store with push abilities, leaving users of the Sparrow app having to manually retrieve mail through it.
