Speck’s Collapsible iPhone 6s, Galaxy S7 Pocket VR Viewer And Case Accessory Now Available
Back in January, at CES 2016, mobile device case maker Speck announced Pocket VR and case accessory for iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices. Given the virtual reality element, which is all the rage right now, it naturally garnered quite a bit of attention.
If you too get giddy at the sight of all things VR and were eyeing the accessory’s release date, it’s time to draw out your credit card, because the Pocket VR with CandyShell Grip case is available to purchase right now for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7.
It will cost you $69.95, which might seem on the higher side when compared to certain other smartphone-powered VR viewers out there, but the special thing about this one is that it can collapse into a form slim enough to slide into your pocket. That’s the beauty of Speck’s offering – it is collapsible, and can transform into a VR viewer if and when needed, allowing users to take the magical world of virtual reality with them wherever they go.
Speck didn’t skimp on the “case” part of the whole deal either, offering what is dual-layer military-grade protection against those nasty falls and bumps, thanks to the company’s CandyShell Grip case which is included in the package.
This isn’t the first VR-viewer-plus-case-combo that I’ve come across, though I certainly find it to be the first example of it being done right. Apart from protecting your phone with a high-quality CandyShell Grip case, the viewer itself does a good job protecting its Google Cardboard-certified VR assembly as well. The viewer offers retractable side panels that slide into place to protect the lenses from dust and scratches when it is collapsed into its pocketable form, and an “open design” that, unlike most other VR viewers, will allow you to have full access to your phone’s screen and buttons at all times. The latter could easily be seen as a disadvantage, though. The open design will let in ambient light, making the VR viewing experience a tad less immersive.
If you can look past that little con, you’re looking at two nice accessories for your phone in this neat little package.
