SoundCloud Now Has A CarPlay App, But There’s A Catch

If you’re someone who owns a car with CarPlay support you’re no doubt already very much aware of how great it is when one of your favorite apps adds support for the feature. Now, SoundCloud fans can enjoy just that after the app added CarPlay support in its latest update.

But as great as that sounds, there is a catch that you should be aware of.

That catch is that you’ll need to be a SoundCloud Go Plus subscriber in order to use the CarPlay feature. It costs $9.99 per month and gives subscribers ad-free access to on-demand streaming.

With CarPlay support added SoundCloud customers can listen to their music library while driving without fiddling with their phone which is a real boon. It’s just a shame that this feature is only available to those who pay for the Go Plus subscription.

That might change in the future, though. Accessing the app without a subscription results in an error message that says “CarPlay is only available to subscribers for now.” That suggests that things could change in the future, although it isn’t clear why SoundCloud is going this route or why it would change course.

Apple CarPlay is a feature that is available in tons of cars right now and it allows drivers to connect an iPhone and then access their CarPlay-compatible apps. Some cars support wireless connectivity while others require a cable.
