Samsung Teases The Galaxy Z Flip During The Oscars Ahead Of February 11 Announcement

It’s going to be officially announced on February 11, but Samsung apparently couldn’t wait that long to share the Galaxy Z Flip. So instead it waited until an ad break during the Oscars and teased it in a commercial.

Samsung will be hosting an Unpacked keynote tomorrow but with so much already having leaked we now have another glimpse of a phone that will be Samsung’s second attempt at making one fold.

The Galaxy Fold had more than  a few issues of its own, but the company will surely be hoping to avoid all of that this time around.

The Galaxy Z Flip will likely be announced alongside a few new flagship Galaxy S20 handsets, but it’s the foldable form factor that makes this particular phone stand out. It’s a flip phone, like the recently-released Motorola RAZR, and the new ad shows it in two colors; purple and black. And boy does the purple look gorgeous.

Interestingly, Samsung appears to be hoping to appeal to a wider audience with the Galaxy Z Flip. The Galaxy Fold was priced well above what most people will buy a phone for, and that meant that it didn’t need to deal with your average user picking one up. But that doesn’t appear to be the case here, with Samsung instead making sure everyone knows that there will be a crease in the display. That’s inevitable with a folding phone, but Samsung wants to make sure nobody complains.

During the ad there’s even small print explaining that the crease is normal.

You may notice a small crease in the center of the main screen, which is a natural characteristic of the screen.

So, there’s that. We’ll be waiting to see what Samsung has to say about this thing tomorrow. But for now, we’ll be watching this short teaser over and over again.
