BOE Technology is reportedly readying itself to supply new OLED displays for iPads and MacBooks, according to a new report.
It’s thought that the Chinese company will be ready to get its displays into Apple products in 2024.
That timescale comes from the building of a new Gen 8.6 OLED display production line at the B16 factory in Sichuan Province, China, according to a report by The Elec.
The Chinese display panel giant is planning to have the line have a production capacity of 15,000 substrates per month and start production near the end of 2024, sources said.
Like its South Korean rivals Samsung Display and LG Display, BOE is planning to build the line in preparation to supply OLED panels to Apple for applications in IT products such as iPad tablets and MacBook notebooks.
It’s thought that BOE Technology hopes to be able to offer competition for Samsung Display and LG Display in the competition to provide OLED panels for Apple’s future portable devices.
The report suggests that Apple is keen to get its first OLED iPad to market in 2024 with previous reports pointing to future OLED MacBooks depending on the reception its OLED iPads receive.
