There's little doubt that, in its current state, multitasking in iOS is very limited in terms of functionality. In fact, it's about as one-dimensional a feature as any within the entire operating system, and with iOS 7 now well and truly on the horizon, it is something concept makers have really focused their attentions on in recent weeks. Ran Avni is yet another designer with fresh ideas of how iOS multitasking should play out in the future, delivering a rather intriguing concept which sees windows for different apps form a card-like UI.
The Sims franchise is the undisputed king of the real-life simulator, and Electronic Arts has just revealed that The Sims 4 will be arriving for both PC and Mac at some point next year. It has been almost four years since the release of the third Sims, and although some of the details have yet to be revealed, this is very exciting news for all Sims fans out there. The iWatch concepts have been rolling through thick and fast these past few months, and with Apple said to have a team of over 100 developers and engineers on the task of bringing such a device to market, it doesn't feel as much of a pipedream as it used to. Martin Hajek is one designer that has really taken to this particular Apple project, and having cooked up a number of concept designs already, has come through with yet another attractive set of iWatch renders. More details, plus lots of images, after the jump.
Bill Gates has stepped out and described Apple's iPad as "frustrating" to use, noting that the device should take a leaf from the book of Microsoft's Surface. He believes that iPad users miss key features such as the use of a physical keyboard and access to Microsoft Office, and if the Cupertino company were to take some cues from the Surface, owners of the Apple slate would enjoy a more gratifying experience.
If you are a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch user who loves nothing more than customizing and changing the aesthetics of iOS, then it could definitely be worth checking out the Athena package that has recently landed on the BigBoss repository. Many jailbreak fans regularly download and install full system themes that are then activated through WinterBoard to take care of their artistic pleasures, but Athena could be a great little alternative for those who just want some added eye candy on the app icons.
The pull-to-refresh implementation that was first introduced into the iOS ecosystem by Loren Brichter has pretty much become the de facto method of refreshing tabled data within iOS apps, but it seems that Ryan Petrich and Sentry_NC have an altogether different way of using this control method by making Do Not Disturb accessible from Notification Center and the lock screen of a jailbroken device.
Samsung just can't help itself these days. Seemingly more important than extolling the virtues of its own handsets, the bashing of Apple and more importantly, the users of its smartphones, is target numero uno. At least, that's what you could be forgiven for thinking if you've ever seen the company's new Galaxy S4 ads.
Google Glass is the hot property on the internet right now, especially amongst those of us that live and breathe technology. But it's not just those of us that happen to spend our time inside the tech bubble that are interested in Google's bold push for computer equipped spectacles - even the mainstream media are getting in on the action.
Android 4.2 is the most advanced version of Google's mobile OS to date, and despite its "buttery" smooth billing rendering it more than decent right off the bat, it stands to reason that many of you will probably want to mod / hack it as much as possible. Scarcely is this achievable without USB Debugging enabled, which in turn relies upon Developer Mode being activated. Since Google has rather kindly made it trickier for developers and wannabe developers to find Developer Options as time has gone on, we're going to quickly show you how to bring about Developer Options on Android 4.2.
