We got the pleasant surprise of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 8 – 8.1, courtesy of Chinese jailbreak outfit Pangu. Getting it up and running has been a bit of a laborious task thus far, with the manual installation of Cydia necessary at this point in time, but that's not the main limitation. Cydia Substrate, support framework for many major tweaks and apps such as WinterBoard, wasn't immediately compatible with the newly-jailbroken iOS 8, but with Cydia author Jay Freeman aka Saurik having made the necessary fixes, Substrate has now been deemed ready for prime time.
