Apple’s iPhone 8 is now just a matter of weeks away from its big unveiling, and when CEO Tim Cook finally takes the wraps off of the latest flagship iPhone to come out of California, we will finally see an end to the constant rumors and guess work.
Until the next time, of course. The latest news regarding what is perhaps the biggest smartphone release of the year comes courtesy of iHelp BR with yet more discoveries made by sifting through the HomePod firmware which was released a couple of weeks ago.
The first of those discoveries involves charging, with the firmware including mention of ” _CanChargeInductive” code which suggests once again that some sort of induction charging is in play. The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 7s/iPhone 7s Plus devices have long been expected to ship with wireless charging capabilities as borne out by the move away from metal and towards glass once again for the construction of the iPhones’ rear panels. A new battery icon is also mentioned – “batteryglyphs-D22” – with D22 being the internal code used by Apple when referring to the iPhone 8.
Perhaps most interesting is the news that the iPhone 8 may allow for its Status bar to be moved to the bottom of the display depending on the app that is in use. The Camera app is one example, with “isTopBarInvertedForModerniPhone ” mentioned in the HomePod’s firmware.
Other findings include “lockButtonAppropriateForShutter” which appears to relate to the iPhone’s sleep/power/wake button being used to take photos as well as accessibility functions specifically built for the iPhone 8 with “Accessibility-d22 ” spotted in the firmware. There’s also discovery of strings such as “usesModernBar” and “Modern Lockscreen” suggesting some tweaked visual elements.
Earlier it was discovered that the iPhone 8 will be capable of facial identification even lying flat on a desk, and that the phone’s FaceTime camera and the rear camera both, will be able to record 4K videos at 60fps.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus next month, with all three going on sale shortly after.
