Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with blackra1n

George Hotz (aka geohot), the kid who was the first to unlock the original iPhone back in 2007 and then iPhone 3GS in July of this year is back! This time he is the first one to release jailbreaking solution for the new iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware for all devices through his new tool called blackra1n. blackra1n is a software tool which can jailbreak (not unlock) all iPhone’s (iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touch’s (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on firmware version 3.1.2. blackra1n is currently for Windows only, a Mac version of this app can be expected soon.

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

Follow the steps below to jailbreak all iPhone’s and iPod touches on OS 3.1.2:

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS: Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below).

Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes. Download link for iPhone Firmware 3.1.2 is given at the end of the post.

Step 3: Download blackra1n for Windows (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Start blackra1n app. If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.

Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”:

Step 6: Let the app do its thing and wait for the phone to automatically reboot.

Step 7: You should now have “blackra1n” in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n”, download Cydia and let it install it.

Step 8: Finally reboot your iPhone. Voila! You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.

  1. hey there i had a iphone 3g 3.1.2 05.11.07 installed blackra1n from the official blackrain website
    it installed all good i had blackrain icon i opened it installed cydia
    had wifi etc 3g had youtube working safari working everything basically exept for the gps the blue circle would not flash even if i was in a clear area never worked
    so i tried pushfix , pushfixandyoutube , etc and still didnt work
    restored to factory settings and returned it to apple
    now i have a new iphone 3g 3.1.2 05.11.07 same iphone as before
    out of the box
    what do i have to do to get everything to work including gps
    i hear problems with wifi and gps with blackra1n rc3 on 3.1.2 any one else having same problems can some one help me jailbreak my new one 100 percent

Maybe I am stupid but do you download blackra1n on to your iphone or laptop.. have tried it numerous times on my laptop,, followed the prompts get to system is re-booting the initial screen comes up on my phone but the nges back to the usb screen,, can anyone help,,, have hte latest software on my 3.1.2 iphone..can anyone enlighten me.. tks

  4. Open Itunes. Then hold the power and home button for 10 seconds until it reboots. Release the power button but don't let go of the home button. Connect your phone to the P.C. Before the apple logo shows up on your phone. Release the home key once iTunes recognizes your phone. It should say iPhone. Then release the home button. Your phone is now in recovery mode. This will restore your phone. Then do a restore from backup by right clicking on your phone on the left in iTunes. It works. I bricked my phone 2 days ago and I'm back. cat7data@yahoo.com

  5. i might just be stupid but i accidentally (literally, by accident) installed 3.1.3 into my 3G(S) anyway to get my 3.1.2 back I extracted it from the recycle bin and now I can’t find it anywhere on my laptop WTF HELP!!! And this is prolly the wrong place to post this but oh well.

  6. Having the same problem as the person a few comments above me.
    Everything works fine, ecept when I do a reboot/ complete poweroff… then iI get the connect to itunes icon and then I have to use blackra1n again to fix the issue.

    Is this normal that I have to do this every time? If I’m around my pc, this is not problem, but it’s annoying that I have to do this every time…

  11. download to your computer and just plug your iphone into the USB port and click make it rain and it’ll do the rest

  12. well, you download blackra1n to your computer/laptop. plug your ipod into your computer, after that you open blackra1n and click make it ra1n. if this doesn’t jailbreak and sends you to the recovery page, reopen blackra1n and click make it ra1n. after this process it should be fully jailbroken.

Help , i just restore my iPhone 3GS 16GB with 3.1.2 firmware then i use blackra1n RC3 to unlock. but i didn’t unlock sim. then i try to restore and use it again. but still not work. then i use blackra1n again (without restore 3.1.2) . and i still not unlock sim . Next i try to restore 3.1.2 , and but it show error dialogue “This device isn’t eligible for the requested build” help how to restore . thank

  19. everytime i try to jailbreak my itouch i keep getting an error that says “the procedure entry point sqlite3_prepare_v2 could not be located in the dynamic link library sqlite3.dll.

  33. I have exactly the same issue. When my phone dies or I turn it off I get the picture of the USB cable pointing to the iTunes logo and have to run blackra!n on the computer. Any way to stop this, its really annoying.

  36. I need help… I've done most of my research so i will not burden you with stupid questions..but i have just updated my itunes and iphone 3gs (3.1.3).. I did this so i could jailbreak with blackrain..and now i'm not seeing any download for this updated software. Can someone please help me?   43. WTF. I had jailbroken mine a few weeks ago, and it had been working perfectly since. A couple of days ago I saw the 3.1.3 update in iTunes and denied it. Today, after a visit to the Appstore and some downloads, it just rebooted out of nowhere. I couldn't do anything other than restore it, and of course they force you to update it when you restore, so now I am back to basics.
    So, does anyone know when the 3.1.3 version will be available? I can't decipher all the different names for things on this page, so the current version definitely wont work, right?

  46. On Vista: Running app in XP compatibility mode and now I’m stuck at usb cable pointing to itunes icon. Does itunes need to be up and running? It asks to connect to server to check for updates and identify device.

  49. Hi all, i found a solution for jailbreak 3.1.3.
    just follow the instructions.
    1) Download 3.1.3 from where ever it’s available, double click & install it.
    2) Reboot your device, download redsn0w-win_0.9.2 on your windows XP,
    3) run redsn0w-win_0.9.2.exe on your PC & browse 3.1.3 firmware where you saved it.
    4) Just follow the instructions & you’ll finally Jailbreak your iPhone 2G/3G/3GS
