Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with blackra1n

George Hotz (aka geohot), the kid who was the first to unlock the original iPhone back in 2007 and then iPhone 3GS in July of this year is back! This time he is the first one to release jailbreaking solution for the new iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware for all devices through his new tool called blackra1n. blackra1n is a software tool which can jailbreak (not unlock) all iPhone’s (iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touch’s (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on firmware version 3.1.2. blackra1n is currently for Windows only, a Mac version of this app can be expected soon.

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

Follow the steps below to jailbreak all iPhone’s and iPod touches on OS 3.1.2:

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS: Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes (download link given below).

Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes. Download link for iPhone Firmware 3.1.2 is given at the end of the post.

Step 3: Download blackra1n for Windows (download link at the end of the post).

Step 4: Start blackra1n app. If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.

Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”:

Step 6: Let the app do its thing and wait for the phone to automatically reboot.

Step 7: You should now have “blackra1n” in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n”, download Cydia and let it install it.

Step 8: Finally reboot your iPhone. Voila! You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.

  6. About SMS message period of validity.

    A brand new Iphone 3GS phone has the SMS message validity period defined by operator, usually 3 days.

    If a message cannot be delivered in this defined time to the destination, (for example the receptionist keeps phone switched off) message will be destroyed?

    It seems to be not possible to change this setting in Iphone 3GS, not just as usually in most cell phones, from 1 hour to 7 days or even more!!?

    Also one can't get no info if or when a message has been delivered, or is it still waiting for delivery or has VP exceeded..!
    It can be get also by typing before message one of marks *K#, *N#, -K-, (etc., depending on operator).

    If and when JailBreak has been done, e.g. using program “Blackra1n” the validity time is 10h. However, there in program “biteSMS” is 'Message delivered' facility included,
    but I haven't found any program which has this mentioned facility for changing the period of message's validity. This has been often needed to ensure that an important message really has been delivered and that it has not been erased before recipient has seen it!
    For me 3 days is mostly long enough, but that 10 hours is far too short and about this limit would be necessary for many JB users to know e.g. via public areas.

    Can anyone tell, does JB or any after installed program really change that period?

  7. Apple doesn't care if you do jailbreak it. As a tech agent for Apple (a Senior Advisor), we will still troubleshoot your phone for you to try to help you get it working. Even if we know its jailbroken, we will still try to help you fix issues up and to the point that it is determined that the jailbreak is the reason for your issue (most of the time it is not).

  16. I downloaded blackra1n for my iPod Touch 32 gb, which i bought just a couple of days ago. got the 3.1.2 firmware for it. i hit “make it ra1n” but now it's just stuck on “entering recovery”. I've already tried this before and the first time, it worked fine, downloaded Cydia and everything. but I still wasn't able to access all those apps, as I've been told jailbreaking can help do. so I have 2 issues: 1. why is it not getting past the “entering recovery” stage? oh also, my iTunes says i need to restore it. now will this help get past that obstacle and help it continue or do I just need to give it some time. cuz I've restored it a couple of times before and it hasn't seemed to help. but anyway, after that 2. once i do download Cydia, if i get to that point, how do i access my apps and what is my indication that my iPod has successfully been jailbroken. if anyone could help me with these issues, i'd really appreciate it. my email is arjungovil@hotmail.com

  18. I unlocked and jailbroke my iphone using blackrain and bootneuter. I was with at&t but am now putting in an Italian Vodafone sim and it keeps telling me “new sim detected, connect to itunes”. When I connect to itunes, it sees my iphone but does nothing?? What do I do???!!!

    I have a 3gs and i downloaded blackra1n. once i clicked let it ra1n it detected the device the said it was recovering after bout 20 secs itunes came up and stated my phone was in recovery mode and i had to reboot how do I get round this??

I tried to use this but i always get stuck on a black screen. this is all after the apple logo appears and the “sync with iTunes” symbol appears too. these go away then i have the black screen and I am stuck. the blackra1n i downloaded also says “Done, wait for reboot” I have tried to restart the ipod and try it again but it fails over and over. Another thing, if i jailbreak my iPod( which is a first gen with 3.1.2 firmware) then will all of my data be lost like pics and apps and stuff? please help me, i am tired of technology crapping out on me.

  49. omfg. i jail broke my Iphone 3gs 1 day old and when ever i turn it off it needs to be restored. so my birthday presant that cost sooo much is now stuffed. FOR FUCK SAKE. there better be a resolution around this because im really fucking sad now and anoyed.

  50. Okay so blackra1n worked fine and my ipod touch 2g is jailbroken. Now i am trying to add non itunes apps one being from appulos “lexi complete”. it creates perfectly fine in itunes but upon syncing with my ipod touch i receieve the error
    :The application “complete” was not installed on the ipod because an unknown error occured (0xE8008001):
    if been looking on formums and have gotten nowhere. any help would be appreciated.
