Apple has made iOS 11.3 public beta 2 OTA update download for all compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.
Today’s release comes almost exactly 24-hours after the release of iOS 11.3 beta 2 to registered developers and will immediately expand the testing pool of those putting latest pre-released seed through its paces.
This is Apple’s second pre-release seed of iOS 11.3, which means that it isn’t the first time that testers have been able to interact with what’s on offer. As part of this second release, Apple has pulled through on a promise made by CEO Tim Cook to give additional power and information to the user where the battery performance and limitations are concerned. Installation of iOS 11.3 beta 2 instantly means that device owners will have a new Battery Health feature located at Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
The purpose of that feature is to expose additional information to the user which shows the maximum capacity of the battery in that particular device and whether or not the battery is operating at its peak performance. If peak performance is achieved, then all is good and the device owner doesn’t need to worry. However, if iOS does determine that the battery inside of the device is unable to deliver peak performance capabilities, a user will be given the option of whether or not they want to toggle the power management features on or off. Beta 2 of iOS 11.3 also includes new ClassKit framework for educational apps.
In addition to these new feature being exposed to this particular beta, those installing iOS 11.3 will also experience an array of new inclusions in general, such as bringing back the Messages in Cloud functionality as well as new Animoji characters which can be utilized in iMessage communications. Apple has also dramatically improved the Messages app with the inclusion of its new Business Chat feature which allows device owners to chat with specific companies offering customer service and sales through the app.
Public testers registered on Apple Beta Software Program, and who already have the beta configuration profile installed, are able to go and grab the latest iOS 11.3 public beta 2 downloads right now as a simple over-the-air installation from Settings > General > Software Update. If this is the first time you are installing public beta of iOS, head to beta.apple.com to get started.
Update x1: tvOS 11.3 beta 2 is now also available for public beta testers.
