Instagram Is Finally Coming To The iPad After WhatsApp’s Recent Release

Following the recent release of a WhatsApp app for the iPad, it seems that Meta now has a taste for making apps for Apple’s iPad.

According to a new report, the company is working on launching its first Instagram app for the iPad.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing in the weekly Power On newsletter. According to Gurman, Meta is currently working on bringing its image and video-based social media app to the iPad after years of users requesting it. The app’s media-focused approach seems an obvious choice for the iPad, but so far, it hasn’t happened.

Now, Gurman reports, things are changing.

“I’m told that employees on the Meta Platforms Inc. campus are actively testing Instagram for the iPad and that development work is full steam ahead. I would expect it to be released this year if all goes to plan.”

Instagram has historically claimed that the market for an iPad app simply wasn’t big enough, although that seemed unlikely. Instead, iPad owners have had to use the iPhone app on their tablet. The blown-up app works, but looks terrible.

While we don’t yet know specifically when we should expect that Meta will bring the Instagram app to the iPad, the news that it should be released this year means we will hopefully only have to wait a few months at worst.
