Honda And Acura Drivers Can Now Open Their Garage Doors Using Apple CarPlay

Most modern cars come with Apple CarPlay these days but Honda and Acura have announced that they’re going a step further — adding support for opening garage doors using their CarPlay apps.

The feature is part of an integration with Chamberlain Group’s myQ Connected Garage service. And importantly, you might be able to take advantage of it without having to buy any additional hardware thanks to that myQ integration, Autoblog notes.

For this tech to work, Honda says that you’ll need a compatible garage door opener, but there’s a good chance you already do because myQ is compatible with most openers on the market today from LiftMaster and other Chamberlain brands. If your opener is already myQ enabled, then you won’t need to do anything.

Have an older garage door system? Honda says that you can upgrade to a new myQ Smart Garage Control device for free if you sign up for its smart connected services. That includes a 30-day free trial, but after that, you’ll have to pay $129 for three years or $179 for five years.

Once all up and working, drivers will be able to control their garage doors using their CarPlay-enabled in-car displays, making it easier and safer to open the door without having to get out of the car.

Honda says that all 2023 and 2024 cars are good to go while older models will also gain support for the new garage door feature, although details and timings are thin on the ground right now.
