Google Pixel 2 / Pixel XL 2 Event Date Set For October 5 [Rumor]
We are now heading into that extremely exciting time when manufacturers start officially announcing the next-generation hardware that we’ve been hearing so much about through leaks and information slips.
There’s clearly a lot to look forward to from a handset perspective as we move into the final quarter of the year. Apple is all set to announce iPhone 8 next month. We already have the full details on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 thanks to yesterday’s unveil in New York. LG is set to officially unveil its V30 hardware in the coming days, and now, serial leaker Evan Blass has confirmed via Twitter that he believes the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones will make an appearance on stage during a dedicated Google event on October 5th.
Not only is Blass usually extremely accurate with predictions, and comes with a long line of successes, but it was October 4th last year when Google introduced the first Pixel and Pixel XL hardware, so the dates are believable as they line up with the company’s previous media events.
Blass hasn’t yet dived into anything overly technical about the upcoming handsets but has used the same tweet to suggest that both new Google devices will ship with Snapdragon 836 SoCs. The inclusion of the Snapdragon 836 series would be a slight step up on other hardware announced this year but it won’t offer a performance improvement that’s worth shouting about.
As we approach the October 5th event, it’s highly likely that we will see some additional leaks being put out into the public domain. Hopefully, those leaks will give us a better insight into the technical specification of the Pixel 2 range including some idea on visuals and aesthetic design.
Many insiders and analysts are also expecting Google to announce some new hardware – likely to be Google Assistant-based headphones – this year, so it will be extremely interesting to see if that hardware materializes, and, if so, if it actually gets an outing at this October 5th event.
