This release comes when we are only days away from Apple’s September 12 iPhone 15 event where the company is expected to release RC version of iOS 17.

iOS 16.6.1 and iPadOS 16.6.1 are nothing more than a bug fix and security fix release which fixes the following critical issues, as detailed by Apple:

Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Description: A buffer overflow issue was addressed with improved memory handling.

Impact: A maliciously crafted attachment may result in arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Description: A validation issue was addressed with improved logic.

To update to this latest version, head over to Settings > General > Software Update section on your device and grab the OTA update from there.
