Donald Trump Says He Called Cook “Tim Apple” To Save Time And Words

You probably remember the news last week that saw U.S. President Donald Trump call Apple CEO Tim Cook by the mildly amusing name of “Tim Apple.” As was wholly predictable, the President has taken to Twitter to claim that he, in fact, was simply trying to save time.

Cook and Trump were meeting last week as part of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, which was live streamed online. Trump took the opportunity to note that “people like Tim” are “expanding all over and “doing things I really wanted you to right from the beginning.” After apparently seeming to take credit for Apple’s work, Trump then went on to say “I used to say, ‘Tim, you’ve got to start doing it over here,’ and you really have. You really put a big investment in our country. We appreciate it very much, Tim Apple.”

However, Trump now says that he was simply saving time and words, and that “the fake news” has jumped all over it.

We’re not sure that we believe that, nor do we honestly think it really matters. At this point, Trump is in the middle of his very own “reality distortion field,” and whether something did or did not happen is irrelevant. Tim Cook, for his part, seemed to find it funny – he changed his name on Twitter to simply read “Tim ?”

At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. The Fake News was disparagingly all over this, & it became yet another bad Trump story!

Whether Trump meant it or not, he does have form for getting names wrong like this. He has also been known to call Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson “Marillyn Lockheed.”
