DJI Announces Air 2S Drone With 12KM Range, New 5.4K Camera, More

DJI has today taken the wraps off another new drone, this time in the form of the Air 2S. Priced at $999, the new drone includes impressive range and a cool new camera, too.

Starting with the new camera, DJI’s new Air 2S offers much-improved performance according to Matt Burns of TechCrunch. They’ve been testing the drone for around a week and initial impressions are looking positive, although a full review is still to come.

That new camera, for example, is now capable of capturing 4K video at 60fps and 150Mbps.

The Air 2S comes with an updated camera over the original Air 2. DJI put a one-inch, 20-megapixel image sensor in this model capable of capturing 5.4k video at 30fps or 4k at 60fps and 150Mbps. This camera also supports different zoom levels depending on the capture resolution — from 4x zoom at 4k 30fps to 8x at 1080p 30fps.

In terms of range, things get even more impressive with Burns reporting that real-world range comes in at more than a mile. That’s twice what was offers by the original Air 2!

Range, to most users, will be the most noticeable improvement. The DJI Air 2S’s range is very impressive. It’s capable of flying (while streaming HD) nearly twice as far as the original Air 2. In my experience, this results in a real-world range of over a mile.

All of that comes in a package that starts at just $999, although a $1299 package is available with two additional batteries, a charging hub, a bag, and ND filters for those who want to get the best out of that new camera.
