Having finally showcased the Galaxy Alpha smartphone earlier on this week, the next major release from Samsung will be the Galaxy Note 4. Set to be unveiled at the confirmed Unpacked event in Berlin on September 3rd, the phablet will apparently pack a sharper, quad-HD display among a number of other improvements and perks. In order to ramp up hype in China for the next-gen handset, the Korean company has released a teaser trailer, with reports also suggesting that posters relating to the forthcoming device have also begun cropping up around mainland China.
Samsung's long tradition of using Apple's own advertising campaigns against it shows no sign of abating with the recently introduced 'Wall Hugger' line of TV ads, but now the Korean firm has gone a step further by moving its campaign to a new battleground - the airport power outlet.
For the longest time, there's been talk of a so-called Galaxy Alpha from Samsung, which, among other perks, would finally give fans of premium design reason to take note. In recent weeks, leaks have pointed to a handset with a metallic, chamfered edge, which, while not as high-end as the HTC One or the iPhone, would signify a step up from the wholly polycarbonate finish that consumers have become accustomed to. Now, finally, the Korean outfit has officially taken the wraps off the Galaxy Alpha, and below, we mull over the design and specs.
Samsung has already sent out invitations to its Unpacked event early next month, and given that the past couple of Galaxy Note handsets have appeared at IFA in Berlin, we're fully expecting to see the fourth iteration in a couple of weeks' time. We've heard all sorts of rumors pertaining to the device, notably that the display will remain the same size but increase in resolution, and now, we have some high-res shots of what is claimed to be the Galaxy Note 4 in all its glory.
As well as taking the wraps off the Galaxy Note 3 ahead of last year's IFA exhibition in Berlin, Samsung also introduced its inaugural smartwatch effort in the form of the Galaxy Gear. Sure, it was panned by critics and went down with consumers like the proverbial lead balloon, but it was a start, and having rolled out a handful of wearables since then, the company is in much better standing as far as the emerging smartwatch market is concerned. Given the Korean outfit's insatiable need to continually push new products, the rumor that another smartwatch may be rolled out alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at this year's IFA is none too surprising, and with the report on the matter also suggesting that it will include its very own SIM slot, it's perhaps the most interesting smartwatch that Samsung has brought to us so far.
In what can only be described as a shock, Apple and Samsung have both announced that they will drop all litigation against each other outside the United States, thought the pair will continue to duke it out in Apple's homeland.
On the first week of September, with the IFA tech gathering looming, Samsung usually showcases the latest addition to its phablet 'Note' series, and although we've heard several reports with regards to the Galaxy Note 4, it's now certain that Samsung Unpacked will be held on September 3rd. The Korean outfit just passed out invitations to the special event, and although it cannot be confirmed that we'll be seeing the Note 4, the timing leads us to believe that this will, in fact, be the case.
Even though Samsung has successfully competed alongside the Apple iPhone over the past few years in the battle of the high-end smartphones, there are definitely strengths and weaknesses on both sides. For while critics of Apple have pointed out the lack of display real-estate, NFC and other such features, the Samsung Galaxy line-up has not yet offered fans of premium, metallic build anything to write home about. The Korean outfit looked on as the likes of HTC and compatriot LG began churning out these more substantially-crafted devices, but according to a new leak, the supposed "Galaxy Alpha" may include chamfered metal edges akin to the Apple iPhone.
When we make the purchase of a new smartphone, or any mobile gadget for that matter, we take one or two things for granted. One aspect that we assume to be a given is that, above all, said device is safe to use, and will not cause any harm. Despite this, though, there have been several instances where folks have looked on as their beloved gizmos spontaneously combusted, and although you may be one of the man millions to sleep with your handset under your pillow, you mightn't after witnessing the smoldering mess that one Galaxy S4 owner's device was left in.
Samsung was solely responsible for creating the "phablet" genre of mobile devices when it announced the original Galaxy Note at IFA Berlin in 2011. A device that combined the large screen of a tablet with the traditional functionality of a smartphone seemed like a great idea at the time; and even worked extremely well in practice thanks to the execution of the idea with the Galaxy Note series. However, it seems that Samsung simply isn’t happy with the state of the phablet market and have taken things to the next ridiculous level by launching a 7-inch device that it expects consumers to make and receive voice calls on.
