Facebook iOS updates are an interesting phenomenon. On one hand we could be in for a complete redesign at a moment's notice and on the other we might be getting stickers - or oversized emojis to you and I. Today's Facebook update brings some new features to the iPhone and iPad, but we do find ourselves struggling to get too excited this time around.
It seems that we can't go any longer than five minutes without iOS 7 for iPhone or iPad being in the news these days, which is quite a feat considering it's not going to be available for another three or four months. Today is no different, and the latest piece of iOS 7 news comes courtesy of the iPad.
The official Man of Steel game has just arrived for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, and as any big fans of the superhero flick will vouch, this is quite a big deal. There have been several apps and games already released for both Android and iOS in anticipation for the movie, which hits cinemas worldwide today, but nothing beats the official game. If you're running a fairly new iOS device; for example, an iPhone 5 or iPad 4, you can rest assured that you'll be reaping the full benefits of iOS 7 when it does eventually become available to the end user. However, if you're in ownership of something a little more, shall we say, mature from the iDevice range, it's likely some of the latest and greatest iOS 7's treasures and niceties will be held back, due largely to lack of hardware support.
Following the announcement of OS X Mavericks, the new MacBook Air line and the long-awaited Mac Pro, Apple CEO Tim Cook returned to the stage to announce iOS 7. Describing it as "the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of iPhone," he then played through a video in which Jony Ive described attention to design detail the Cupertino has afforded the next-gen mobile OS. In line with the rumors and speculation, the OS is much flatter and cleaner than ever before, but when Craig Federighi switched places on stage to offer an in-depth analysis, it soon became apparent that iOS 7 is a great deal more than a lick of paint.
Today, as if a reminder was ever required, is the opening morning of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, otherwise known as WWDC. Rarely does a new tweak come along for jailbroken iPhones that not only manages to become an instant favorite amongst the community but also creates demand for the creators to extend the offering to additional devices. On the whole Cydia based tweaks generally have a fairly limited shelf life and can be thought of as disposable downloads and purchases, with only a few managing to permanently manage to capture a place on a user's liberated iOS device. The original release of Auxo for iPhone and iPod touch by A3 Tweaks instantly became one of those loved packages with the good news being that the supported device range has been extended with the dedicated Auxo for iPad now available to purchase through Cydia.
The first-person shooter genre has really flourished on modern mobile devices, and up there mixing it with the best of them is Gameloft's modern combat series. The publisher has quite a few similar titles available for both Android and iOS, but the Modern Combat franchise has easily been its strongest hitherto. Having already developed a strong legion of fans, Gameloft has just gone ahead and teased a trailer for Modern Combat 5, and even though the previous releases have enjoyed high-end, console-esque visuals and gameplay, this latest version appears to have stepped things up once more. Details, as well as that trailer, can be found after the jump!
