With Samsung and Sony having already shown their respective hands with the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress last week, much of the Android world's attention has turned to HTC. The Taiwanese outfit made waves last year with the One, and naturally, talk of the HTC One 2 - otherwise known under the 'M8' technical moniker - has been prevalent. Today, a brave kid has leaked a 12-minute video running through some of the device's tech specs, features, and design, and while, as displayed through a Twitter exchange with an HTC official, his actions may see him land in a spot of bother, we can now enjoy his fairly thorough walkthrough of the upcoming flagship device.
The next-generation HTC One is expected to make its debut later on next month, and with Samsung having laid its cards on the table with the introduction of the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress, the HTC One 2 will have the opportunity to upstage its fiercest rival in Android space. Today, as well as yet another leak showcasing the device - which does indeed boast two rear-facing cameras - HTC has also delivered a new video talking about the improvements made to the BoomSound technology for the One's eventual successor. Teasingly, the key details are obscured, but if you've been looking forward to the next big thing from HTC, it's now just a few weeks away.
When the likes of Samsung announce a new top-of-the-line smartphone the world tends to sit up and take notice. With the Galaxy S5 being announced by that very same company earlier today at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, it's fairly safe to say that it gets the attention of not just those that are likely to go out and buy one, but also of the companies that make handsets that compete directly against it.
We already know that the successor to the HTC One will be arriving rather late to the party on March 25th, but with the Mobile World Congress just around the corner, the Taiwanese outfit reportedly has a number of wearable gadgets up its sleeve. The main device, which the company will likely show off to carriers rather than reveal publicly at MWC, is said to be based upon Qualcomm's Toq smartwatch, and with two further efforts - including a Google Now smartwatch - also in the offing, the likes of the Pebble and Samsung's Galaxy Gear will have some real competition.
Coupled with the revelation earlier today that the next HTC flagship will be unveiled on March 25th, a new render of the device paints the clearest picture yet as to its probable form factor. Since this particular leak has been dug up by the ever-reliable Evleaks, we can say with relative authority that we now know what Taiwanese manufacturer will be showcasing in one month's time, and although, on first glance, it does look rather similar to last year's flagship HTC One, there are some notable differences.
The HTC One was last year's great surprise package. The Taiwanese company had been struggling, like many other vendors, to keep up with Samsung, but after several powerful-yet-flawed releases, the One seemed to strike a chord with its audience. Boasting smooth operation, a great display and an award-winning unibody design, the handset was lauded by many as the smartphone of the year. But that was 2013. This demanding industry is always looking out for what's next, and right on cue, HTC has begun dishing out invitations for a special event on March 25th.
I use the HTC One and iPhone 5s on a daily basis, and although there are other nice-looking handsets on the market, the general consensus is that these are two of the most beautiful currently available. But while the Apple flagship is merely four months old, the One is heading towards the latter stages of its tenure, and consumers are already eagerly waiting to see what's next from the Taiwanese company. A few rumors have been floating about with nothing really set in stone as yet, but a new HTC One M8 concept dreamt up by Google+ user Nikolai Prettner has well and truly blown us away. Check it out after the break!
According to a report from Bloomberg, HTC is working on an updated and refreshed version of its flagship One handset. The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer released the device in the spring of last year to much critical acclaim, and with the shelf life of most smartphones now seldom exceeding the twelve month mark, the company is looking to consolidate its re-emergence amongst the big boys in the mobile market.
Dual-SIM smartphones seldom see the light of day in the western world, but the newly-updated HTC One includes two SIM card slots - ideal for frequent travellers, business and pleasure separators or those leading double lives. It's about to hit the UK market for £494.99, which is just a fraction more than the standard edition, and for those who've been waiting for a decent dual-SIM handset to hit the scene, the highly revered HTC One is probably your guy.
Suspicion, speculation and good old fashioned controversy is never far away in the smartphone industry. Companies like Samsung, HTC and Apple are always keen to let the public know how well their hardware performs in areas that matter most to the consumer. One of the accepted methods of documenting and listing that performance is by running the hardware through a well-known benchmarking text. Futuremark - the Finnish development team behind 3DMark for Android - has announced that it suspects Samsung and HTC of cheating the benchmark tests to produce favorable results, and as such has delisted the offending handsets.
