After quite a lengthy build-up, the all new HTC One (M8) is finally upon us. Even though we knew most of the details thanks to a spate of pre-announcement leaks, HTC has still revealed a couple of interesting tidbits in its simultaneous showcasing in New York and London, and we've got all of the details coming up after the jump!
Last week, Google announced Android Wear, a tailored version of its popular firmware built specifically for the emerging smartwatch market. Following the announcement, which was accompanied by the release of the Android Wear SDK Developer Preview, both Motorola and LG swiftly announced their forthcoming devices to the on-looking tech world. Since then, we've seen much of the former Google-owned Motorola's Moto 360, but haven't been treated to nearly as much coverage of the Korean company's G Watch, and so to stem the tide, LG's UK Twitter page has just shared a new pic of its wrist-worn gadget, as well as a reminder that the device is "coming soon."
We're about two-thirds of the way through our countdown of the Samsung Galaxy S5 from announcement to release, and even though we've had plenty of opportunity to see and read of what's in store, we're now starting to get leaks of the official software to try out for ourselves. Samsung may have pushed the Galaxy S5 Experience app over to the Google Play Store last week, but while this demo is insightful, there's nothing quite experiencing the device and its features first-hand. If you're not among the lucky few to have gotten hold of the device earlier than billed, then an official ROM leak, intended for the Chinese version of the SM-G9009D, has to be the next best thing.
The iPhone 5c has been cited by many as a failure, but while the device is assumed not to have sold in as high a number as Apple might have liked, recent predictions from analysts based upon official financial info made available by the Cupertino suggests that the device has actually fared rather well. Even though Apple hasn't offered a breakdown of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c sales, preferring to release figures under the general, 'iPhone' umbrella, analysts have done their homework and found that over the holiday period of 2013, the iPhone 5c outsold many of the market's flagship handsets.
Like most companies involved in the ultra competitive smartphone market, HTC would never turn down the opportunity to drum up some consumer interest in a new product pre-launch. And HTC is on the verge of making an official announcement regarding the all new HTC One, or M8 as it is more commonly referred to, but it seems that the cat has been let out of the bag for the second time from another unofficial source. Leaks and product speculation certainly get the tongues wagging of those who may actually be going to purchase the hardware, but we don't know if HTC will be entirely happy about this latest HTC One hands-on video that has emerged.
The Nokia X smartphone, the first device that the Finnish company has released on Android, was revealed by Stephen Elop a few weeks back, and having since gone on general sale, we’ve finally been able to get our hands on a unit. Naturally, we thought it is best to share the unboxing process with you, so check out the images below!
This week has been a particularly busy one for the emerging smartwatch market, with Google having finally unveiled its Android Wear OS designed specifically for wrist-mounted gizmos. Straight after the announcement, Motorola teased its Moto 360 smartwatch, and even though we've several other devices to look forward to from partners including LG, HTC and ASUS, the Moto 360 immediately struck a chord. Finally, it seems, we have a smartwatch that oozes style and a sense of being a traditional watch as much as a toy for geeks, and now, we also have what is claimed to be info relating to the device's specifics.
The announcement of the Galaxy S5 seems like an age ago, but with almost one month having passed since Samsung took the wraps off its latest Android humdinger, we're now just a couple of weeks from retail. During the past few days, UK carriers Three and Vodafone have offered the all-important details regarding the S5's pricing and availability on British shores, and now, US-based AT&T has done likewise. For those wishing to tether themselves to a contract with North America's foremost mobile operator, the Galaxy S5 will be available from April 8th with an up-front cost of $199, and pre-orders are being taken as of now.
BlackBerry, a company that, not so long ago, was a superpower in the mobile industry, has been in free-fall for some time, and despite an executive shake-up that has seen the Canadian outfit appoint a new CEO, things don't look to be getting any better. One area that BlackBerry still clutches on to is enterprise, with many businesses still in favor of using the company's products for their robust security features, but according to the Wall Street Journal, one of its foremost clients - The White House - is assessing the possibility of switching to LG or Samsung.
Android KitKat 4.4, introduced by Google late on last year, brought with it an abundance of useful features, but due to the fragmented nature of the ecosystem, not everybody on Android has been able to enjoy its numerous perks. In fact, only a very small fraction of the Droid-wielding faithful have tasted the chocolatey, delicious new flavor, but thanks to the dedication of a wider community, those on older firmware needn't miss out on all of the new features. The Immersive Mode, for example, turns the process of using any one of you favorite apps into a full-screen experience, and now, thanks to a third-party app, you don't need to be on KitKat 4.4 to take advantage.
