After months of build up, Google today finally launched its competitor to Twitch, with YouTube Gaming going live on the web today, and its iOS & Android apps also being made available.
When Apple introduced Siri for iOS, it started a new trend that was previously shared by individual apps, but nothing system-wide. Google answered soon with Google Now, and while it didn't have Siri's finesse, it still did the job. For quite a while, it was between these two that the battle raged on, until Microsoft entered the foray with Cortana - a virtual assistant that in some ways was arguably better than both Siri and Google Now. After first launching on Windows Phone and then later on Windows 10, Microsoft committed to bring Cortana to iOS and Android, and back in July, a leaked APK became available that gave users hope. Today, however, Microsoft has released an official beta version of Cortana for Android, and it's available for you to download and test away right now.

Mobile owners may have seen a number of Angry Birds incarnations over the years, such as the Star Wars spin-off and the Transformers collaboration, but Angry Birds 2 is the official sequel to the biggest mobile game of all time, and promises to be "bigger, badder and birdier".

It's difficult to believe that Star Wars, one of the most iconic franchises ever to exist, has been in our lives since 1977, spanning a total of six movies so far, with more to come, and it hasn't had an official native mobile app presence - until now. After acquiring Lucasfilm for approximately $4.05 billion back in 2012, Disney has now launched an official mobile app for iPhone and Android that acts as a mobile centric gateway to everything Star Wars.
In this day and age it seems many of us live our lives on Facebook, not only using it as our digital rolodex but also keeping a running tally of who our friends are and what they are up to. That's all well and good, but while Facebook tells you when someone wants to be your friend it is much more coy when someone goes the other way, and wants to unfriend you.
It's that time again, where both Apple and Google choose an app to be made free for 7 days, with the app then returning to its previous price once the offer is over. Over the months and years we have seen some truly excellent apps represented as part of Apple's free App of the Week, with Google putting its food into the water just recently. Both Google and Apple have announced the apps that they chose for their respective app store offers this week, with both likely to prove popular.
Everyone likes free stuff, especially when it's free stuff that would have cost a little bit of money not too long ago. While we're all for app developers being paid for what they do, there is always something to be said for a short price drop promotion in order to drum up interest. Making your app free is even better because in many ways it's a win-win situation.
