It has already made a huge impact on the console gaming world, with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions proving to be extremely popular, and now the fantastic Borderlands 2 game from 2K Games is available to purchase and download on the Mac App Store. The game has been published by well-known developer Aspyr Media who is currently offering a festive price reduction for those who grab the game during the holiday season period, meaning that potential gamers can grab Borderlands 2 for the Mac now, with 25% off the standard price going forward.
The game in its current form only offers single player capabilities, with the developers promising that multiplayer support and Game Center integration will be coming in the early part of 2013 as a free of charge update through the Mac App Store. Although, multiplayer gaming and Game Center leaderboards won’t be available immediately, gamers can console themselves with some unique gaming content that is only available to those purchasing on the Mac. New Fired Up skins, additional hunter heads and a Contraband Sky Rocket Grenade are all unique to this OS X version.
So what exactly is the game like? Do the fantastic graphics and insane gameplay transfer across to the Mac? Well yes, yes they do. As is the case with the console versions of the game, Borderlands 2 is an amalgamation of first person shooting and role Ppaying games that manages to standalone in its own role playing shooter genre. The procedurally generated guns, shields, grenades, artifacts and enemies look stunning, and although users will need a fairly powerful Mac to get the best gaming experience, it is definitely worth the outlay if they are a fan of the Borderlands franchise.
Some gamers may be aware that Borderlands 2 was also recently released on the Steam platform, and although Steam Borderlands 2 downloadable content is not compatible with the Mac App Store version due to varying encryption methods. Those who purchased it can get access to Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage DLC on the Mac App Store for $9.99. Although the game is already superb, here’s hoping that the promised update at the start of the year brings additional power with the Mac-to-Mac co-operative gameplay modes.
