The most vocal of all iPhone Dev Team members - MuscleNerd today updated on the whole iPhone 4 unlock situation which he has been working on with @planetbeing (of Android port for iPhone fame). For those of you who don’t know, carrier unlock for US iPhone 4s on AT&T requires complete rewrite of ultrasn0w software because of the new baseband OS in iPhone 4.

Sn0wbreeze 1.7 for 4.0 has been released. Just like PwnageTool 4.0 / 4.01 for Macs, you can now create custom pwned / jailbroken ipsw files on Windows too which can now jailbreak all iOS devices (except iPhone 4) on iOS 4, including iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G. But there is a catch to it! You will need to have their SHSH blobs saved for iOS 3.1.2 in order to successfully jailbreak these devices on iOS 4. Also the jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G on iOS 4 will be tethered, which means whenever you turn off your phone, you will need to re-connect it to a computer to be able to turn it back on.
According to a latest tweet by a member of iPhone Dev Team, it looks like an all device jailbreak like Spirit and Blackra1n is ready, incl. for devices like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G. This is going to be yet another userland jailbreak which we talked about earlier and is coming from none other than comex – the developer behind Spirit jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod touch.
Internet Tethering is a process which allows you to use your iPhone as a wireless modem to share its Internet connection with a computer via USB cable or Bluetooth interface. The iOS for iPhone has this functionality (wired-only) built into the operating system but it is only enabled on selected carriers. Fortunately, there is an app called “MyWi” for jailbroken iPhones which can enable wireless tethering on any carrier you like with just a touch of a finger!
I have been using iPhone 4 for the last 5 days now and no matter what I do, I am unable to replicate the iPhone 4 antenna reception problem which everyone keeps talking about. These 3GS devices were not only required to have old bootrom, but they were also required to have previously been pwned or jailbroken on anything (like blackra1n) other than Spirit.
