OS X Mountain Lion may have only been publicly available for the last five months or so, but according to statistics and analytics; it has quickly managed to claw itself to the top to become the most popular Mac operating system which Apple has ever released. Mountain Lion was released in July of 2012 with the philosophies of being a fully functional desktop operating system that took more than a little inspiration from iOS running on an iPad. For a long time, Facebook was always thought of as a web-based company that didn't put a lot of importance on users who prefer to access their services through mobile devices. The official Facebook app was built around cross-platform technologies making it notoriously slow, unpredictable and unstable, and their mobile website didn't really make things much better. That focus started to shift with the acquisition of Instagram, followed by the updating of their mobile apps into native languages as well as the release of standalone apps such as Messenger and Camera. Here at Redmond Pie we always love to see companies pumping resources into research and development of their own products, with the end goal of; evolving and providing a better solution to the end-consumer. We love it even more when that commitment to quality directly affects us and the products that we use, which is why we are extremely excited about the announcement from Corning regarding the third iteration of their widely used Gorilla Glass. Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 has been dramatically improved in all aspects, with the company intending to show off the product at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week.
It's fair to say that a great deal of us allow Google to handle our personal and professional email requirements, which is something that makes Gmail one of the most used electronic mailing systems in existence. Google has gone to great lengths to deliver a positive and reliable Gmail experience to users on mobile devices, something which has manifested itself in the release of increased mobile security as well as a number of native mobile Gmail apps that have grown significantly since release.
Rather than just plucking out a random day from thin-air, Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson has posted a rather teasing countdown that shows the number of days left until the E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, prompting intense speculation that Microsoft intends to introduce the world to the next-generation Xbox console.
Do you remember when using multiple touches on a display was defined as the future of navigating around our tablets and computers? Or when Apple launched Siri, followed by a wave of voice-based copycats, only to be told that it was actually audible commands that would prove to be the future of device interaction? Well, it seems that both of those methods could be old news fairly soon, with attention now being lavished onto controlling our computers using nothing but our eyes thanks to the world’s first eye-tracking peripheral; the Tobii REX.
