The tech. world has been rocked by a series of high-profile acquisitions over the past couple of years, but whilst Facebook's purchase of WhatsApp is perhaps the most memorable, Microsoft's buyout of Finnish telecoms giant Nokia last September is right up there. We always knew that the Nokia branding would eventually make way for something a little more reflective of the new ownership, a notion that was recently confirmed with the announcement that high-end Lumia handsets would change from Nokia Lumia to Microsoft Lumia. Now, for the first time, a leak out of China gives us an idea of what these devices will look like with their new logo.

Apple Pay may only have launched a couple of weeks ago alongside iOS 8.1, but already, a number of big-name retailers and banks have jumped on the bandwagon and offered support. Today, several other financial institutions appear to have finally gotten their houses in order, adding to an already impressive array of banks now compliant with Apple's NFC-powered contactless infrastructure.
As we continue to be distracted by the Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 at the top end of the smartphone market, it's worth remembering that Google's been busy rolling out some new hardware of its own. Along with the Moto-manufactured Nexus 6 smartphone, the Big G also took the wraps off the HTC-made Nexus 9 tablet and its very own Apple TV-incarnate in the Nexus Player last month. Now, both slate and set-top are available to purchase right from the Play Store, although there are one or two limitations to this arrangement.
Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have shattered a number of records in its first six weeks on sale, and as well as outselling every previous iPhone during these early stages, has also done a pretty good job of embarrassing Samsung and the Galaxy Note 4. Despite the strong beginning, Apple's iPhone 6 / 6 Plus roll-out is not yet fully under way, and having launched in the U.S., U.K. and several other key nations way back in September, the number of countries able to access the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus now stands at over 60. After posting exceptional figures across much of Asia - China and Korea seem to have taken very well to the Cupertino company's latest and greatest - the iPhone 6 will hit another nine countries on November 14th, the details of which you'll find below.
Apple likes to build things that just work, requiring as little intervention as possible on the part of the user, and AirDrop, the company's local file-transfer service, typifies this notion. Google, Apple's main rival in the mobile industry, is apparently working on a similar feature of its own, with a number of blogs having been tipped off that a service named "Copresence" is currently in the works.
Not content with the powerful new iPad Air 2, which Apple showcased during last month's big media event, the rumor mill still has its sights on the elusive iPad Pro, and whilst it has long since been reckoned that the larger slate would be arriving at some point in the near future, we now have some new details and revelations as to what said device will entail. As well as a 12.2-inch display - a change in direction from the long-rumored 12.9-inch setup - the slab might also include extra speakers, and with a thin profile set to give even the iPhone 6 a run for its money in terms of slickness, there are plenty of reasons to be getting excited.
Apple has released the open source 'Darwin' code of OS X 10.10 Yosemite in a roll-out that occurred last night, and considering the release of Darwin 10.9 last year, has popped up right on cue.
Apple, like a number of the bigger names in the mobile industry right now, is focusing its efforts on fitness and health, integrating a number of features that will supposedly help iOS users to lead healthier and more active lives. The HealthKit infrastructure is integral to this, but while many third-party apps can aggregate iOS Health data to help us keep track of progress, this one essentially gives you a deadline for when you'll cease to exist. So, if you're feeling a bit morbid - it is, after all, Halloween - check out the details of this intriguing app after the break!
The Moto 360 is unquestionably among the best-looking smartwatches to have released so far, and Motorola will apparently be looking to capitalize on the finesse of its flagship wearable by releasing a gold edition. Nothing has been set in stone as yet, but as with so many unannounced tech devices and products, Amazon has leaked it early. As normally occurs when Amazon leaks stuff by accident, the listing has since been pulled, but regardless, we've as good as confirmation that a gold variant is in the offing.
We've all, at some stage, found ourselves in the scenario where we pass our phones over to a friend, with the intent on showing them a photo or video, and they take it upon themselves to scan through the entire library. Many of us harbor snaps that we'd probably not want to share with everybody, and so when this unsolicited scanning frenzy begins, we often lean over to retrieve our devices before the worst occurs. But there is an easier way. There just so happens to be an in-built iOS feature that allows you to completely disable and enable touch browsing in a swift, convenient manner.
