Sony's VAIO computer business is to be sold off, the Japanese company has announced, citing the changing face of the global PC industry as the main factor behind its decision to offload the iconic brand to an investment firm. The news comes as the PlayStation maker reneged on its initial forecast of full-year profit to instead announce that it expects to make a $1.1 billion net loss in the year leading up to March 2014.

Google Glass has been a hot topic in the blogosphere for the best part of a year now, and although not deemed ready for consumers just yet, it's worth remembering that the product is being developed with more than just the end-user market in mind. In fact, as per a report over at VentureBeat, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) is currently assessing ways in which the face computer could be used in the ongoing effort to combat crime, and if this is indeed the case, one can envisage law enforcement agencies across the world following suit as Glass becomes more popular.
We've seen an abundance of weather-based tweaks since the Evad3rs team broke through iOS 7 with its Evasi0n jailbreak tool, but a new entry to the Cydia Store by the name of Weatherboard offers a distinct twist. For, instead of helping you actually ascertain the current temperature, wind speed, precipitation, or any other climate-related info, this tweak simply lets you enjoy the undeniable beauty of mother nature in all its glory. With a total of more than 80 animated wallpapers, you can set your lock and home screens to any condition you like, so whether you find the visuals of lightning to be therapeutic or wish to dream about the summer clouds drifting by, this tweak is definitely for you.
Samsung, as you'll likely be aware, has a colossal advertising budget, regularly throwing tens of millions into new ad campaigns. While some, like the Samsung Style dance, have left us cringing, the company has regularly taken the more traditional approach of involving itself in major sporting events, and having been a major partner in the London 2012 Summer Olympics, the company is also looking to capitalize on Moscow's 2014 Winter Games. But while its tactic of giving away a free Galaxy Note 3 to every athlete may equate to some decent coverage when the TV feeds are beamed worldwide, there's a catch, in that recipients of the free Note must obscure the Apple logo if they plan on using an iPhone during the opening ceremony.
Because each member of the iOS device range happens to be conveniently kitted out with at least one camera, the stock Photos app tends to fill up quickly, and while there are apps out there to help you edit and organize your snaps, it's often hard to find the time to sort things out. If you want to separate those personal, important or otherwise memorable snaps from the rest of the field - and do so in a swift, efficient manner - a new tweak called lockSafe has you covered. Not only can you create a separate folder for your most cherished images, but it's easily accessible with a simple swipe on the lock screen, and for added security, even has its own password protection system.
Although Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch has failed to make much of an impression within tech circles during its short lifespan, the Korean company has never been one to back down in the face of adversary. As such, it should come as very little surprise that according to a New York Times report, a second-gen version of the wrist-worn gadget is being lined up for the special Unpacked 5 2014 event later on this month at the Mobile World Congress.
The Xbox One entertainment system only arrived back in November, but with the dust having settled and the early adopters busily getting to grips with the new interface, Microsoft has officially announced that the first system update is headed next week. The Redmond company, which only yesterday unveiled Satya Nadella as its new CEO, has a lot going on at the moment with the Windows 8.1 Update 1 also in development, but as per Xbox LIVE's very own Major Nelson, the forthcoming update will include quite a few noteworthy enhancements.
As the president of the United States, Barack Obama is more than used to having his picture taken. Part of the burden that comes with being among the world's most powerful leaders, he cannot escape the press taking snaps and recording video on his every move. In a more light-hearted environment such as a classroom, though, a busy man like the president gets a rare chance to kick back and enjoy himself, and as you'll see in the clip below, he took full advantage on one visit to a school in Maryland by taking some amusing videos of his personal press team using an Apple iPad.
Apple's Mac range, which only recently turned thirty years old, is an integral component in the world of modern computing. Like iOS devices, Apple computers tend to run smoothly, and this can largely be attributed to the fact that Apple itself designs both hardware and software in-house. But while OS X, the company's desktop platform, can only run on Macs (save Hackintosh-like methods), there was once a point when Steve Jobs - former CEO and co-founder of the Cupertino outfit - wanted OS X to run on Sony's VAIO notebooks.
Such is the sheer number of iOS themes that pass through Cydia on a daily basis, that it would be nigh-on impossible to maintain coverage of all of them. However, every now and then, one particular theme catches our eye, and not only is Anode, by designer John Holmes, a very beautiful theme that covers an extensive amount of the iOS interface in general, but it has also been designed to nicely compliment each of the three iPhone 5s color options.
