Apple yesterday shared the apps that have been downloaded the most via the App Store with lists for free and paid apps shared.

Many of the most popular apps are exactly what you might expect them to be, especially given the way 2020 has panned out.

For example, the most popular free iPhone app was Zoom, while the same app was the most popular free app on the iPad. People having to work from home a ton during the pandemic obviously explains why Zoom was so popular.

When people had to pay they went the artistic route, choosing TouchRetouch on the iPhone and Procreate on the iPad.

When it came to games, the top free title was Among Us! which isn’t that big of a surprise given the amount of attention the game received this year. It beat out Call of Duty: Mobile and Roblox, two other hugely popular games.

In terms of paid titles, Minecraft found itself as the most popular iPhone game while Plague Inc was in second spot. In a year that included a real-life pandemic, that’s a particularly interesting result.

Apple also broke down the top Apple Arcade games as well, with the excellent Sneaky Sasquatch coming in at the top of the pile, followed by Hot Lava and Skate City.
