Apple Reportedly Working On Multiple New Vision Pro Headsets Including A Significantly Cheaper Model

Apple’s new Vision Pro headset isn’t going to go on sale until sometime in the next few months but there is already a suggestion that the company is looking well beyond it with multiple new models being tested.

That’s according to a new report by the supply chain watchers at DigiTimes which says that Apple is now testing additional models of the Vision Pro including one that is set to be much less expensive to build than the model that has yet to go on sale.

The paywalled DigiTimes report was picked up by MacRumors.

The bill of materials (BOM) for the more affordable headset will reportedly be half that of the first-generation Vision Pro to enable a significantly reduced retail price. Samples of this device are apparently set to begin production in the second half of 2024, with launch following in the second half of 2025 at the earliest.

It remains to be seen whether Apple intends to pass on the savings, however, with the first Vision Pro release set to cost at least $3,499 once it goes on sale next year.

Another report, this time by Interface News, claims that Apple expects to have around 400,000 units available in the first batch of products with Apple intending to sell around a million units by the end of 2024.
