It’s impossible to have avoided the news of the devastating fires that have hit Los Angeles in recent days with homes destroyed and people’s lives turned upside down.
People have also lost their lives, making this a bonafide disaster for the people of the area. Now, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that his company will be offering ways for people to stay online when needed.
The loss of infrastructure in the LA area has left many unable to connect to the internet, preventing them from taking advantage of help when it’s available or contacting the people needed to get their lives back together. Musk says that he has the answer in the form of strategically placed Cybertrucks.
“We are going to position Cybertrucks with Starlinks and free WiFi in a grid pattern in the areas that most need it in the greater LA/Malibu area,” Musk said in a post on the X social network. He went on to say that Tesla “will use the Cybertruck as a mobile base station to provide power to the Starlink internet terminal in the LA area that has lost connectivity.”
VOI reports that the move will impact the delivery of new Cybertrucks to people in the LA area while those vehicles are used to help provide free WiFi.
However, it’s unlikely that taking delivery of a new EV is high on many people’s lists of priorities in that part of the world right now.
