Apple has just killed the iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The iPod touch storage tier has been doubled to 32GB for $199, and 128GB for $299 as it drops the 16GB and 32GB models.
As expected, Apple has today flipped the switch on the launch of its new 2015 range of iPods. Apple last paid attention to the iPod touch with an update back in 2012, so today's announcement will come as a fantastic surprise to those who want in on the iOS and Apple Music party without parting with a ton of cash for an iPhone or iPad. In addition to bumping up the iPod touch's specifications, Apple has also introduced cosmetic changes to the iPod nano and iPod shuffle for those who want portability with minimum outlay.
Today may well go down as the day that we saw Apple announce two new iPhones during the same press event, but it's also the day that some of its often forgotten products also received a minor facelift. And by minor, we mean they got a new color.
The last couple of months consisted of intense speculation surrounding Apple as a company, with a lot of that attention being paid to the fact that they were planning on holding this media event that would feature a number of yet undisclosed product announcements. As is usually the case when these kinds of events are on the horizon, there is always going to be one major announcement with the possibility of the company introducing a few smaller, but still notably important products to the masses.
If multiple reports are to be believed, Apple could be set to wield the axe on two of its best selling pieces of hardware, and one of them has been around for a good 10 years.
Apple has completely redesigned both the iPod nano and iPod shuffle for their fall 2010 iPod lineup. iPod nano gains multi-touch functionality, new lighter and smaller square’ish design, and at the same time loses video camera which was only introduced last year. iPod shuffle on the other hand has got all the buttons back, with a new large battery which gives up to 15 hours.
