The icon badges currently gracing iOS certainly aren't to everybody's taste, and serve perhaps as a stark reminder of just how in need of updating the notifications system within Apple's mobile software is. Nevertheless, for what they're meant to do, they do a decent job, and whilst we're stuck with them, iOS developer merdok has come through with a tweak offering a bunch of different customization options. It's called Badge Customizer, and is available for free over at the BigBoss repository for jailbroken iPhones. More details after the break.
Millions of users religiously jailbreak their devices in order to install minor tweaks that change the way specific aspects of the system looks or works, which is why the new LiveWire tweak is sure to be extremely popular with those looking for a free-of-charge animation based download. Apple has done a pretty comprehensive job of including most of the things that the majority of iOS users would actually need from their daily mobile device usage. Access to the App Store, messaging and email, as well as a feature-rich calendar experience are all staple parts of the iOS ecosystem. Live weather feeds, access to social networks and financial information are all just a screen away, but what if you wanted implement a new and attractive way of telling the time on a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch? Well, you would use the new animated Flip Clock for Notification Center widget of course, which is styled after HTC's iconic flip clock which we've known for years.
Facebook's initial decision to separate the instant messaging functionality from the main, official iOS app was met with a few raised eyebrows. However, since that point way back in August 2011, the Messenger app has been at the crux of the social network's major expansion plans, and with VoIP calling being among the more significant implementations to Facebook Messenger, those residing in the United Kingdom can also join in the fun. The service, which goes straight for the jugular of services like Skype, has hitherto only been available to those in the United States (and, more recently, Canada). The news will certainly delight many British Facebook users, and seeing as the feature is running live, users do not need to download a new version of Facebook Messenger in order to enjoy it.
It's a fact of humanity that some of us are better at managing money than others, and for those looking looking to keep track of every outgoing bill, help is at hand in the form of BillTracker for iOS. Created by developer SnapTap and costing $1.99 over at the App Store ($2.99 on iPad), it syncs effortlessly into your schedule, and makes the process of monitoring your money less taxing than Uncle Sam.
Moment Camera For iPhone Is A Charming Alternative Snapper With A Beautiful And Clean User Interface
With so many alternative offerings to the stock iOS Camera app available throughout the App Store, it's becoming increasingly difficult for developers to bring something new and unique to the table. Today, I stumbled across Moment Camera, and although its feature set isn't as expansive as a lot of point-and-shoot utilities, it has a beautiful, clean, and minimalistic UI which renders it well worth checking out.
As a music fanatic, I am always looking for new ways to enjoy my favorite artists on my mobile devices. For me, it's all about minimalism and functionality, and it's a motif to which the awesomely-named developer WhazCool also appears to subscribe. Its MorningTunes app is not only striking in terms of UI, but actually proposes a very intuitive system which purports to understand your collection of music.
If you have ever been in a situation where you've needed to time something, or see how long it takes a friend to perform a certain task, the taking out your iPhone, launching the Clock app and jumping into the Stopwatch time is in itself a time consuming task. Granted, this may have only happened to an extremely small subset of iOS users, but a problem solved is still a problem solved, and thankfully, this niche problematic situation has been eradicated for jailbroken users thanks to the Stoppur tweak.
One of Apple's finer introductions into iOS in recent times has definitely been the inclusion of Notification Center, a section of the OS that allows users to have a dedicated area for incoming notifications and native widgets. Jailbreak developers always seem extremely keen to exploit the real-estate which Notification Center provides, which has resulted in numerous Cydia based extensions. One of the latest, and definitely one of the most in-depth to date, is the Tap to Widgets package that introduces multiple widgets to help users with productivity based tasks.
Apple is pretty stringent when it comes to what is, and what isn't allowed to grace its prized iTunes App Store. The company is notorious for swiftly shutting out any attempt to defy the company's system of rules, with high-profile casualties now including the seemingly innocent VLC Media Player. Someone overlooking the moderation process clearly wasn't on the ball when checking an app by the name of Awesome Baby Names, which bears a rather interesting secret; it actually contains its very own Game Boy Advance emulator within, and although, well, it's not actually very good, one has to admire the tenacity of its creators.
