Although Apple has caved on a few products we never thought would see the light of day from Cupertino - the iPad mini, for instance - the Californian company has never been one to jump aboard the bandwagon. Features such as the larger display and LTE took a while to manifest, while other widely-implemented smartphone attributes such as NFC still have yet to hit the Apple smartphone. Wireless charging, popular with premium Windows Phone and Android devices, is just another feature that some iPhone users have sought for while now, and tired of waiting for Apple to get its backside into gear, one start-up IndieGoGo project has taken matters into its own hands with a neat, low-cost solution.
It's been available to buy for a couple of months now, but getting your hands on a new iPhone 5s still isn't the easiest thing in the world. Things are starting to get better though, as Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster points out while pointing at a nice colorful graph that backs up his claim. It's a shame it's not the same graph that says when the Apple television well be released, eh Gene?
Apple's Touch ID had been rumored to be on its way to devices for some time, and when it was finally unveiled as part of the iPhone 5s we all marveled at how Apple managed to take a fingerprint sensor and build it right into the Home button to the extent that you wouldn't know it was there. These things always seem even more impressive when shown as part of an exploded diagram, which is why everyone should take notice of the fact that Apple's Touch ID is now part of a patent application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
It's amazing how quickly companies like Apple, Samsung and others magically find stock of their hardware just in time for consumers to get their hands on to send as gifts to family and loved ones. The iPhone 5s has been suffering from a serious lack of availability in the time that has followed since its launch, a problem that seems to be fixed just in time for the holiday shopping season.
As soon as news of a smartphone begins to leak, the case makers are already on the task, looking to cash in on those early adopters. However, once the hype has died down a little, we get to explore some of the more creative, bespoke and generally intriguing cases on offer, and Proporta's iPhone 5s case, which boasts the ability to withstand a shotgun blast as its marquee feature, most certainly falls within those categories.
The iPhone 5s delivered a plethora of changes and alterations over the preceding iPhone 5, and as ever, we all got a little bit excited. As well as throwing in a dual-LED, 'True Tone' flash, 'Touch ID' fingerprint sensor and a new Gold model for everybody to drool over, the Cupertino company also revamped the processor with an A7, 64-bit offering, making the device the very first smartphone to offer such architecture. To cap things off, there's now an M7 motion coprocessor thrown into the melting pot, aiding overall efficiency by helping certain processes run in the background. Naturally, app developers have been steadfast in their adaption to the new features, and now, the popular RunKeeper app has been updated to take advantage of M7. Details after the break.
We're all waiting, no doubt in vain, for Apple to confirm just how well the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c has sold individually rather than as a pair, but we now know just which colors buyers have been favoring thanks to a poll put together by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.
Apple is no stranger to catastrophic clangers when it comes to hardware. Can anyone ever forget the debacle that was lovingly named 'antennagate' by journalists after the iPhone 4 suffered from what we can only call a debatable antenna flaw. For a company that prides itself in the details, Apple can have some pretty woeful slips when it comes to quality control.
The gold model of the new iPhone 5s has been highly sought-after by a large portion of consumers, but while the rear cover and accents offer the novel champagne finish, the device itself is still largely white, and those looking for a darker color configuration are left only with the Space Gray variant. However, a Black + Gold version, made using legitimate components from a Space Gray and Gold model iPhone 5s, has now appeared on eBay, and with it being the first of its kind comprised of 100% Apple-manufactured parts, those interested will have to pony up a cool $3,600 for the privilege.
Apple has just started airing a gold iPhone 5s TV ad in the U.S. for the first time. iPhone 5s, which was launched exactly one month ago, has been a popular choice among consumers, with almost all Apple Stores still running out of stock since launch, especially for the gold option.
