Although today's special Apple keynote in San Jose is centered around the announcement of the iPad mini, lest we forget the Retina-displaying, 9.7-inch iPad complete with all the bells and whistles. Released back in March, the 3rd-Gen Apple slab brought a host of improvements on its predecessor such as the A5X processor for quad-core graphics, and today, in line with recent changes made by Apple, a slightly-amended version of the slate, dubbed as iPad 4th-generation has been announced today.
It’s finally here, folks! Apple has just announced the all-new iPad mini at their event today. It’s (mostly) exactly what the technology blogosphere was expecting: a smaller iPad 2. Check out all the basic specifications, pricing and availability after the jump!
Apple is all set to reveal a smaller iPad later today at their event in California Theatre in San Jose,CA, but we’ve come across news related to the next-generation “iPad 4”. It should be common knowledge by now that Apple's executive team will take to the stage in California tomorrow to introduce us to a number of new products, one of which is rumored to be the mini variant of the iPad. It is also being suggested that the event will have a strong focus on education and will feature a number of releases and announcements that are geared towards allowing Apple to get an additional foot in the doorway of the education sector.
Ever since rumors first sprang up with regards to the smaller iPad, or "iPad Mini," as it is being unofficially dubbed, one of the immediate questions springing to the minds of many has been "what about the iPod touch?" After all, the so-called "iPhone without the phone part" has been the only device offering the iOS experience minus the iOS price, but with the iPad Mini combining the lower-end cost with a larger screen and a set of features easily matching the iPod touch, is there really a place left in the market for it?
According to a report from the generally-reliable 9to5Mac, the entry-level model of the upcoming iPad Mini will cost $329. Given the purported specification of the device, the price point was always going to be dramatically lower than that of the main iPad, and although it's not as cheap as the Nexus 7, it's still, one suspects, cheap enough to potentially command huge sales.
When talking about the video games industry, SEGA is a seasoned veteran, and although there's no longer a flagship console on the market, the company continues to dazzle us with remakes of those old classics.
They say nothing in life is free, but when it comes to promotions for iOS and Android titles, that old cliché is thrown out of the window, for some of the very best apps – Fruit Ninja, Cut The Rope and even Angry Birds – have been available for the five-finger discount at some point in time. Now, the popular classic Carmageddon, which is just released on iOS, joins the list of titles to hold a promotional freebie, and you can download your free copy right now over at the iTunes App Store.
One of the great things about the third-gen iPad is the fact that apps, images and artistic type features look stunning on the high-resolution display. The Concepts app from TopHatch is a great example of an artistic based app that makes perfect use of every pixel on the iPad, allowing users to mockup unique and stunning creations directly on the device.
Now that Apple has officially sent out event invites for the predicted media event on October 23rd, we can be rest assured that Tim Cook and his executive team are planning on introducing us to the miniature iPad that has been so heavily speculated on over the last few months. As the company gears up to present their new mid-range tablet to the world; it looks like they also have one eye on the next major iPad release coming in 2013. According to new reports that have surfaced today; Apple has already been in contact with parts and components suppliers regarding the next version of the 9.7-inch iPad.
